Well my snowball in a bowl is now half the size it was but there is very little water in the bottom of the bowl and there is a neat crater in the snowball which wasn’t there before. Definitely sublimation going on.

It' sending you subliminal messages that it wants to get out of that bowl.

Thunderbolt_ aka Scott Richards still has got his grudge against snow (posts on TWO)  and yet he still does timelapses of it. For something he says he hates, why the hell would you do a timelapse or film of it to remind you of it?

You two don't get on ,lol

That's late Feb/early March sun for you. Some people will argue until they're blue in the face that it's the temp and DP that affects melt rates more but I've seen time and again the effects of the strengthening sun on snow cover.

We have seen today low temps and dew points below freezing yet the snow has disappeared...

I prefer December/January cold spells for this very reason.

Yes of course the sun speeds up melt rates, however across most of the north west temperature have reached above freezing today, so thawing in the shade also. The models proved quite accurate with this. Here are a selection of temperatures across the region (official stations, from weathercast), even Leek at over 300m almost reached above freezing. The coldest air is further east and south of our area.

Just back in from work.  Some decent beefy snow showers today, however the sun is noticeably stronger now and melting the snow in high traffic areas I.e footpaths, roads ect.  However my back garden faces East and there's is about 4-6 cm of lying snow

Looks to be increased activity from the Yorkshire side of the Pennines.

Bring it on

It's like saying you hate the sight of your mother-in-law but you have a photo of her in your wallet.......

It reminds me of the old joke of keeping a picture of your mother in law in your wallet to stop your kids pinching any money.
