Totally agree,I fell asleep on sofa about 11 after a meal out any getting soaked outside and woke in a daze about 130 from gusty wind, not from the italians.

Went into kitchen and my mind struggled to register that every window was covered in thick snow and thought I was dreaming. What a turnaround in such a short time and unexpected, but wow

Glad some of you have had surprise snow! 

It will be interesting to see the distribution of showers today, for my area the wind direction isn’t the best until later in the day.

 Liverpool TAF still saying thunderstorm/heavy snow through the middle of the day.

DP has dropped quite a lot, currently 1.4°C. A bit windy earlier, quiet now.

People with heavy snow piccies should be sent to their own thread, and not allowed to post. That would leave us Merseysiders and Manc snow dome amongst others to continue to share our disappointments without inane jealousy. ?

Looking at the radar, angle of attack looks perfect already with showers currently sliding in from the WNW. Now we just need a streamer to set up!

indeed- hopefully temps will drop another degree or so but i fear 300m is going to be needed for lying snow today..

The much colder uppers should arrive by this afternoon and then remain with us until the morning so showers should progressively turn more and more to snow during today.

Plenty of showers being generated in the Irish Sea and rolling in across the region. As pip22 indicates,  probably won't expect snow at low levels until at least mid morning. Lots of time left in this event yet.

Cheers for the link NWS. Dewpoints very nearly down to zero as confirmed by Chris as well. Desperately trying not to get my hopes up today, but it is looking great for this afternoon and overnight.
