Winds blowing drifts massively here.... really wow never seen anything like it... two inch snow drift on front door mat inside... never seen that... garage inside has six inch drift from gap underneath... it’s not Baltic it’s antarctic... temp -4c must be -20/-25c windchill... local pub quiz on though and city match... woohoo...

thats extreme even for the peak district.

I'm sure we will discuss this event in depth at some point but its of interest that many places west of Manchester saw little from this easterly, places like Oldham Rochdale Glossop on the edges of the pennines/peaks got absolutely pasted , its almost as if the clouds crossed the moors and emptied their load right on us and then evaporated as they headed west..

The lesson for me is

a winds from NE/ENE/E are all good..

b winds from the SE are pants

c NW/WNW are absolutely rubbish when compared to a..

i was at work today but that blizzard this morning was literally 4 hours long, i went out for a break at 8 am and saw Civic centre Oldham vanish and thought, here comes the snow, and boy did it, it didnt stop until dinnertime.

Truly magical ..(and unforgettable week of weather).

So further east is getting snow, and further west is, and here I am. Stuck in the middle. ?

its not that good anyway, only a real good heavy shower could lay the smack down.

This always happens with Easterlies though - feb 1st - 2nd 2009 when I was in Salford, everywhere 6 miles to the East were getting 6 inch /8 inc or 1ft falls and I had 1 decent shower on the sunday afternoon then snizzle for 30 hours but not this potent snizzle we are getting now - that was really light snizzle.

Still nothing here.  Odd how Runcorn Old Town is getting snow, but the New Town is getting nothing.  Perhaps down to the geography of the area.  The New Town is built on the ridge that finishes at Runcorn Hill, mostly 60m asl.  Perhaps the ridge is deflecting the wind in some way.  Odd.

Absolutely bonkers out there where we had a foot of snow there’s now none.... drifts must be approaching 5-7 ft.... ouch that wind is completely bonkers... feel for the farmers around here... and wildlife... aboslutely atrocious out there... trees down all around... where is our warning?
