Moderate snow started, blowing all over the shop. Next round beginning!

+40mph gusts once again as that low-pressure gets closer, more 'bumps' and road-closures reported as rush-hour (whatever rush-hour there is) gets underway.

Both the north Wales and Sheffield areas of snow seem to have expanded but nothing in Manchester. Maybe I am under a rainshadow now that the precipitation is not showery.

The snow shield has a crack in it, hopefully it will break for all the less fortunate (coldies) who want a share.

Kinder Downfall looks frozen-over, this pic taken by Alex Messenger. I've also seen some Buxton MRT pics taken by a member who I know of conditions at the top of the Downfall whilst they were out on exercise and it's certainly mandatory alpine-gear conditions up there.

I have a horrible feeling the snow shadow effect is kicking in, now frontal precipitation is at play.

Radar looking quite sparse over Manchester now with precipitation going very light as soon as it reaches here.

I could well be wrong, and things could change!

Where are you located - I've asked this before. We've had 4 inches not 2cms...

South lakes mate. Got 2cm yesterday. Other parts of Cumbria got a lot more.

Just now, Deep Snow please said:

Is it just me or is storm Emma taking a slightly more northerly track than predicted?

More Easterly by the looks of it too, But im not really holding onto much hope for it. I hadn't expected it to snow all night last night either so fingers crossed.

Does the radar show ppn only at cloud level ?

radar.thumb.jpg.9d8cf16066e789d2dd36bda2f8f6617b.jpg

shows heavy"ish" snow above me but at sea level there's nothing, is it possible sublimation is destroying the snow before it reaches the ground ?

Nothing falling yet, but don’t think it will be long. More importantly, temp is starting to fall again. Max -0.7°C. This makes today the first ice day here since 2010. I never thought I would see one again, they are so unusual here. If I remember nothing else from this cold spell then I will remember this.

 Started to snow now.

I agree, had a few hours off the radar and the snow has remained light outside with the radar showing minimal too. I get the idea of the high ground of Wales perking up precipitation but Chester seems to be under heavy snow for the past few hours, how TF? haha. That is lower than in Crewe etc?

Wow just had an epic gust of wind as the snow started. Must’ve been 50 mph.

According to radar we should be seeing snow.  Currently cloudy, dry, punishing cold wind but just a few swirling flakes.

Just been out and sampled the siberian air...first time probably since 2010 that you walk on pavements with hard impacted ice/snow crunched down by people traffic.  Typically this winter the slush fest has kicked in rapidly and melted it all away.  Not this time, I think this snow will be sticking around for some time.  Well at least until the end of weekend.

P.S. Yes I think the dreaded GM Rain/Snow shadow is kicking on this front coming in from the south.
