I cant see that being right.

Maybe it' the hot exhaust from the engines melting the falling snow which then turns to rain and freezes on contact with the surface.

Its been like this for the past 90 minutes here, just skirting round us. Why? Proper snowdome effect. Jeez.. ☹

I'm in south shore near the airport, been flurries most of the morning, we are just too far west for the showers to keep their intensity, we need a good disturbance in the flow to get anything like on tuesday morning

I think he means current conditions report.

Oh yes I see. Crosby reported  that last night as well. I think it’s just the unusual nature of the snow flakes.  Think they use optical instruments to measure. Freezing rain is definitely not possible currently.

Can’t see that on the TAF, just light snow showers until 15:00.

Go on the Metar TAF

Really is isn't it? Been very disappointing so far in Northwich. An easterly definitely hasn't delivered here as expected.

Very poor compared to Feb 91, we've just been bang unlucky.

Snow eased of here but wind really beginning to howl. Depths seem to range from a dusting to several inches, such has been the level of drifting. Be interesting to see how the rest of today/tomorrow pans out.

It's funny you say that as I was only thinking the other day "Why don't i seem to remember 2013"...and it's because it wasn't memorable here. I know I'm frustrated about the lack of snow but I know it's just because it's such rare synoptics (sub zero temps) that I really want to see a proper event. I have seen some amazing things but I don't want to wait another 20 years until I see it again!

You just know when things become marginal the sleet and rain will have no issues in reaching us so frustrating everything at the moment conductive to snow.only plus side at the moment there is no snow to melt.

I am too. I am grateful for what I have seen so far but it's barely laid anything down, a few cms at best... I want a true sub zero fall where it'ts blowing in the streets etc.  Cheshire has been one of the places with the short straws this spell, for example, the streamer that has been consistently over MCR...why not a bit further south? Just interesting to wonder why? As we have less high ground to our east so you think it would be easier for precipitation to make it over. Hey ho.

Anyways, not giving up hope just yet.

Apologies croc can't seem to get rid of quote.

Any update on if Emma will be making it to the North West, SW thread talking of it splitting?

I’m not too overly confident for the next few days, it seems most of the worst will slide into the SW and then Ireland.

haha. I know.

I want to see drifts in the street etc. The ground is frozen and prime, just need a few hours of constant snow to give me what I want!! haha.

There's not a single crane operating in Manchester city centre right now because of the wind. They're all parked.

Just a few flakes blowing around now.

The band seems to be filling in more in south Cheshire and Staffordshire.

It's cloudy, odd snow flurries and a strong, viciously cold wind...the kind of wind that cuts right through you and gets into your bones.

-2.2c at 1pm..god knows what the wind chill is.
