You know things are bad locally around the Peak District when buxtonweather goes down, just got the MEN to rely on which isn't doing too bad in keeping people updated and AA roadwatch shows a few closures on the usual routes. Got about 2 or 3cm fallen at the top end of the Goyt Valley but from experience it's a different story on the higher routes, the  Cat and Fiddle was closed last night when drifting was up to the top of crash-barriers whilst at the same time it was just a scattering of snow here on the ground at lower levels.

Is long hill closed?

I think for now long hill remains open, but i've heard there's standing traffic between Whaley and Buxworth and around Dove Holes there's some difficult driving conditions. Certainly wouldn't want to risk heading out without a 4x4 today given the temps overnight got down to -7'c so any DCC grit that was put down would have just frozen-over instantly.

It’s now game over south of Manchester. Winds have a southerly element to them.

Poor spell really so far. A dash of snow melting in a few hours. Doesn’t even really feel that cold.

Ha! Not so sure about that. Bloody freezing here. Oh, and it’s snowing I’m definitely South of Manchester!

@Mokidugway @I Cumbria Marra I There was a little earthquake not far from you at 7:33; did you feel anything?

Lots of reports on Facebook saying it was felt as far afield as Whitehaven, Keswick Workington.

Nice covering here this morning.

Just tiny flakes in Chorlton and hardly anything overnight. Hopefully some more around lunchtime but I fear the South manchester snow shield has been activated.

I think areas south of Manchester will join the fun by late morning.

Roads are pretty atrocious out there. I’m lower down in Bollington and it’s pretty bad. Salt has just frozen.  -8 last night. About 3 inches of snow

Just noticed a streamer setup for the south of the region in the next hour or two. If it hits it could give 2-3hrs of heavy snow. But whether it can survive is the question. I bloody hope so
