This is nothing compared to 2010 but still nice to have some good winters scenes accross the NW

There is a decent band heading our way according to the radar as long as they get over the hills ok. Looks potentially strong enough though.

Showers very close to me and the sun is about to disappear.

Yes despite the pessimism in here I think the NW radar looks good.. quite a few green/yellow echoes surviving.

Also most high-res output suggests the southern part of the region getting more organised snow by lunchtime.

Yep certainly beats the last few winters which have been dire.

I agree. West of the M6, south of Preston I think will struggle today, though there is more cloud now

Snowing steadily here in East Cheshire. Admittedly next to the Pennines I no time for them to fizzle out

Moderate snow now! :D

Hopefully as good sign for later.

Visibility reduced now as I can't see the Etihad anymore.

Looks like North Manchester is going to do well from this train of showers but the shadow efffect currently fully in effect for South Manchester.

You can see by turning the anim on the radar how the snow literally evaporates as soon as it hits the South Manchester snow shield.

Hopefully as the showers perk up through the morning some will penetrate further West.

You know things are bad locally around the Peak District when buxtonweather goes down, just got the MEN to rely on which isn't doing too bad in keeping people updated and AA roadwatch shows a few closures on the usual routes. Got about 2 or 3cm fallen at the top end of the Goyt Valley but from experience it's a different story on the higher routes, the  Cat and Fiddle was closed last night when drifting was up to the top of crash-barriers whilst at the same time it was just a scattering of snow here on the ground at lower levels.

It’s now game over south of Manchester. Winds have a southerly element to them.

Poor spell really so far. A dash of snow melting in a few hours. Doesn’t even really feel that cold.
