Just had the odd very shortlived fleeting bit of snow today, its a green rather than white landscape. However, things are set to change, winds are going to become stronger and turn more easterly, lower uppers as well, greater convection, our best chance of heavy snow comes in the next 24 hours. This morning was a damp squib here, a skittering, but tomorrow morning could be quite different.

Later in the week - it all gets very messy, will the fronts make it this far north?

Tomorrow should be an ice day.

I sincerely hope so !

Some of the showers are very localised and can be hit and miss for people living not very far from each other.  So I've had a few whiteout showers today, particularly this morning but also alot of long sunny, dry periods in between.

Yes that's what the BBC said earlier - large differences in accumulations within short distances.

What a change in the space of 15 minutes gone from green to a white mantle coating everything. Snow shower is heavy, large snowflakes swirling around, good to see the showers making it this far west so easily - the heavier precipitation indicative of the colder uppers now encroaching. If we see similiar type showers could be a very decent covering by first light.

I have a feeling the Pennines will start to drain the life out of some of these showers now the suns gone down.  Might still get a few stray one's making it over but the 'real deal' is over to the east.

Currently clear with some cloud. Dry with some lying snow remaining. Overnight min last night -2.1C, currently -1.2C.

Might switch off my heating and go to bed early when I can read a book.

I was surprised at how quickly the snow turned heavy, I suspect a bit of uplift over the higher ground is helping to pep them up somewhat, also the colder uppers moving through. The N Sea is now powering into gear, and the chance of widespread heavy snow penetrating Cumbria will increase markedly from now on, tomorrow morning looks prime time for some heavy stuff. We shall see.
