Lets see if this moderate stuff now crossing the penines can make  it to the Manchester area .

They actually seemed to have beefed up a bit when hitting the hills....

I remember being in school, I think it was 2005, when this massive thunderstorm with lightning every 30 seconds came in deposited about 2 inches of hail/graupel. I’m sure that was a polar low if my memory serves me right.

I think Euro 4 is way off you only need to look at the showers coming in off the North Sea now that it isn’t picking up

I agree.

Firstly, I am focusing on tomorrow morning's band of snow. Unfortunately the euro 4 has it just to the east of us but a 20 mile shift west can make a big difference.

We've had a few decaying ones.. I think 2002 or 2003 had one but it was losing strength as it got to us. That said a full strength PL can deliver a foot of snow.. like 95/96 I think..

Manchester Airport TAF now suggesting snow from midnight through to midday tomorrow. I'm not sure whether this can be considered an upgrade from heavy snow showers that were previously suggested.

I just dont believe euro4 is doing it again to our region????

Im far from convinced the pennines will destroy all the showers like 6z shows..

Fingers crossed its wrong..

Lol, it's wrong now! According to midday chart, it should be totally dry east of the Pennines up and down.

The showers have made it across the hills. Started to snow lightly again.

Could be worse. Doesn't look that bad to me. Given that it's prediction for the present is way off what is actually occurring, I would take its predictions with a truck load of salt tbh.

I would say that is an upgrade as it is definitely suggesting and organise band now. Also probable rather than possible.

Flurries here, in the late Feb sun it doesn't feel too bad but the wind is bitter. :D

Liverpool also upgraded showing the organise band of snow.

The report was made 54 minutes ago, at 11:01UTC
Forecast valid from 26 at 12 UTC to 27 at 12 UTC
Wind 9 kt from the East
Visibility 10 km or more
Few clouds at a height of 4500 ft
Temporary
from 26 at 12 UTC to 27 at 12 UTC
Visibility: 3000 m
Broken clouds at a height of 1200 ft
light snow showers
Probability 40%
from 27 at 00 UTC to 27 at 12 UTC
Wind 15 kt from the North with gusts up to 25kt
Visibility: 0500 m
Broken clouds at a height of 200 ft
snow

That’s also suggesting winds gusting near 30 mph, visibility down to 500 m and the ceiling down to 200 feet! Quite bad conditions.

You've got to chuckle that some in here got in trouble in the model thread earlier in the winter for talking about the snow coming in from the north west on the basis that it only affected our area and it was 'IMBYism'. Yet the last 3 or so days in the mod thread the chat has been purely about whether a 5 mile strip of land along the south coast will become mild on Friday and thus get rain.

Wooaaahhh

All i did was post what the forecaster said on BBC and i've opened a real can of worms and feel like i'm about to be thrown into the clutches of an angry mob with pitchforks and flaming torches at the ready :D

FWIW the forecast for tomorrow is changing by the hour at this range .. its really interesting stuff

The airport forecasts seem to suggest the low to be moving in quicker than originally thought tonight and the possibility of several hours of snow. Any thoughts on this? Given the conditions, it should all settle, even if light to moderate in intensity.
