Yeah I remember some days it only just  got above -5. It was only around Christmas eve that it got near 0.

Those light showers make it right to the coast has got to bode well.    When showers pep up later is there any reason they would stop getting this far, are they likely to hit land further north or south?  Will the wind direction change slightly?

Any snow will be great, but am I right in thinking anything this west will always be light, any chance at all of heavyish showers?

The snow has now turned almost moderate. They're re-intensifying over land already. Incredible this early on when the convection hasn't even got going yet!

Watching the airport cam's this morning and can confirm it's snowing down at LHR but up at MAN there's been nothing as exciting other than a emergency inbound. Looking outside there's been a harsh frost with shade-temps leveling off to -3'c overnight.

That shower threw some big flakes in for good measure. What is going on!

Small flakes of snow now falling here in Norbreck, near Blackpool, from the single cloud above.. So it is reaching the coast at the moment. Bodes well..

I would take the mad Friday forecast from the GFS, doubt it will happen but it may be the only chance some of us in the West of the region may get for snow/blizzards based on past experience of

It didnt snow in my part of preston either so you're not on yr own

Listening to the BBC forecast has tonights low missing us and heading into Lincs and the East Midlands.  Thats a radio forecast i've just heard.  But this met office forecast has just changed and i have to say i'm shocked :yahoo: but looking at the wind direction i'm not surprised.

Changes in the wind direction can make a big difference. At the moment it is a straight easterly which helps the shower push across the region.

By the way, the little shortwave that is coming to us in the early hours is already visible in the satellite (currently west of southern Norway). Let's hope it picks up as much moisture as possible as it crosses the north sea.

Showers have no chance reaching here, way too light to cross the pennines then the fells
