There was yes.  We were in the so called snow shadow here as well.  I remember the photo someone posted of the UK under snow with 2 green patches - one in the Manchester area and the other in this part of Lancashire.

I'm east of peninnes in West York's so when the instability kicks off,my house faces west so I'll open all doors and windows creating a quick through draft (use as much boiling water as i can, use, creating steam)and get my big summer fan out and blow it all your way, hence setting a streamer up from my house.

Lovely day out up through Macc Forest to Shuttlingsloe

Freezing wind at the top, god knows how cold it'd be up there next week

No Goshawks showing which is a shame as its perfect conditions

Yes you are correct however I do remember the Rain shadow over Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

As for Not Getting snow from an Easterly it is a total Myth had snow showers from the East on many occasions if the flow is strong enough and unstable snow showers will make it over the Pennines

As by chance I am down in London Next week.

No don't! Knowing our luck it will make the event too marginal for us.

Best way of explaining a streamer to someone who's not sure lol

Possible snow pushing down from the northeast on Tuesday.

iconeu_uk1-1-120-0.thumb.png.7b10c0aeb9855d416d82c08bdf80392e.png

Closer range only goes out to 120 but the larger scale map has it pushing right across us!

It is snow not rain before anyone asks.

850's - BITTER!

Still 5 days out so could change but looking good for us at this stage.

And look at all the further activity queuing up in the North Sea!

Too early to take precipitation charts seriously though. We need to wait till Sunday for that.

Yes the rain shadow even affected this far S in Cheshire...horrendous. The precipitation was just light and drizzly and melted on contact. Some areas not that far away had over a foot though.

Yes, high ground was fine. Low ground in the shadow was affected.

Amazing really only 150m here and snowed in yet Crewe is half an hour away. Shows what an odd region this is

It's like a different world once you get to 150m and above in the NW. I used to see the difference elevation makes when travelling up the A500 to Stoke. The difference started as near as the Little Chef at junction 16 of M6.

Had a gander through the forum and given all the talk of this easterly, bear in mind, at least personally for myself that given the so many disappointments and let downs this winter, we will probably miss out on anything significant once again. Eastern areas will benefit most, obviously, as anything that usually comes from the east is broken down by the Pennines.

Yes I know we have benefited from easterly's in the best, but not often, and we certainly wont this time around. We have had our chance with a multitude of north westerly flows this winter that have either not materialised or not been significant enough to get excited about.

Such a poor winter in regard to the fact that it, potentially, could have been amazing. I will quite literally be avoiding any news channels next week as watching eastern England get inundated with bags of heavy snow while we will got absolutely nothing will only make the depression worse!!

The runs tonight are just a snow machine at 5 days out, if this gets within a couple of days we should be very excited! Tonight's charts at 120 and 144 are just ridiculous!!!

People might need to remind themselves about this. Its not used very often but I think we could see level 4 very quickly if the charts verify.

Don't be ridiculous!

I can assure you we won't be in the level 4 category in this part of the country! Where have you been this winter!

I hope you realise that it is the east of the country that will be affected by this easterly, we wont get anything major here I can assure you!!
