Snowing here too and trying to settle! Won't last long though

Still getting heavier slowly, 2/10 intensity now. Slight ice pellet risk in a bit.

It’s quite ironic actually as the Met have been saying for days that today’s rain would be preceded by snow and then from yesterday said it would be high ground only.

Yet again, the forecast is at odds.

BBC breakfast weather mentioned the Peak District and said snow and it would get heavier before turning to rain.

BBC Radio Manchester, Siomon King said that it would be rain with a bit of sleet. Now he may have been talking about Greater Manchester but quite often he throws the Peak District into the mix.

As usual, wait, look out if the window and see what falls from the sky for real.

my weather station (only a cheap one) reads temp 3.9,  windchill - 6.3 that cant be right can it?

Probably not far off given the DP is so low.

Wow it’s snowing?! Wtf! Just woke up to snow falling! I’ve checked all the forecasts and no mention of snow was mentioned for lower ground this far south?!

Moderate snow now with still quite small flakes and a few ice pellets. No sign of the huge flakes associate with final marginality just yet.

Heavy ice pellets and flakes now. An inversion is forming as I suspected might  happen .

Probably turn to rain in about 20 minutes once the layer below the inversion is  eroded away  sufficiently.

And ice pellets/rain mix now, content varying as the various forces fight with each other to win the dominant precipitation battle. Looks like the inversion is winning though as the DP is creeping above freezing and the rain content Slowly increases.

Now the ice pellets have gain the upper hand for a time as evaporative cooling comes along to give them a hand but it is only a short reprieve.

Soon the wind will gust  and mix the air some more.
