Some SSW's have resulted in cold spells in the past, some have not, there's a chance that SSW could pass us a Greenland high or a straight Northerly/Easterly bringing in cold air. Basically there is a slightly increased likelihood of snow, and Netweather have ran with it for an express/TWO style article with a bit more scientific jargon thrown in.

Bit unfair if you look at the science and details and past events. You vastly underestimate the power of a SSW it may not bring us deep cold but 60% do and this is quite an extreme one fascinating science and certainly no Express style headline.

I don't think it was at all unfair. Whilst it has brought us deep cold on some occasions it simply has not happened enough to conclusively prove that the SSW's are statistically significant with regards to bringing cold air over the UK outright. No doubt there is a chance it could turn us into Siberia for a few weeks. If I tried hard enough I could probably match certain teams losing a game of football they were expected to win or blue pigs flying past Harrod's shop window to deep cold in the UK at a rate of 40-60%, it doesn't mean the causation is actually there, or that the fact this is an extreme one means it will bring deeper colder. I hope it does like most people on here but think it's a bit irresponsible to run that article in such a fashion, however much pseudoscience is in it.

Headed straight to our general area isn't it! Seems to be intensify as well, some purple on it.

The heavy stuff has been hitting here since 3ish, shows how localised it is.

Too much of a gap between showers though.

Spoke too soon, came down really heavy again, added more to the dusting on everything except pavements.

Heavy snow shower left a dusting for about 10 minutes but it all melted now.
