23.6mm of rain today, meaning this month has already had more rain than April 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

We've had 107.0mm so far this Spring, which is just 4mm short of spring 2017's entire total and 207% of the average to this point in the season.

Looks like more of the same aswell. The only difference is it'll be mild rain instead of cold.

Lucky me I'm just on the right side of the boundary between the colder temps and the milder temps

Very noticeable how mild it was today and it was a much more typical April day of sunshine and showers, though it was more bright than sunny. Least there is some interest to be gained from these convective sort of days. More than can be said for the broad rain bands that have affected us recently.

Winter clings on in Scotland elsewhere it is more typical of early April with temps around average and a mix of sunshine and scattered heavy showers some of which have thunder

I wouldn't call it average SS. Here the max today was 15.6C which is almost 5C above the 1981-2010 mean for the time of year.

Another day of large temperature contrasts. The cold air is just hanging on to the far north of England, and it's 2C on the north Cumbrian coast.

Nothing above 18c on the 14 day weatheronline forecast, combined with extreme cloudiness.

We have never in history made it to May without seeing 18c, but that could happen this year. We could also have a chance of seeing the cloudiest spring on record.

Actually quite a lovely day today, shame I'm at work. 16-18c widely on Wednesday if the EC is to be believed, but as I'm off work that's not gonna happen :D

I was looking at Heathrow which only made it to 16.6c. The average warmest day of March is 17.5c so 16c should've been seen several times by now.

First warm-feeling day today. Even as a hardcore coldie who would happily take snow at this time of year, part of me does look forward to the first warm day. My favourite kind of warmth at any time of the year is that which normally arrives in April, where the air is still cool (10-12C) but where things feel very pleasant in the sunshine. Not hot, not humid, not sweaty, just pleasant. Today's dull, humid feel was not like this at all, and has reminded me why I prefer cold weather.

One other aspect that irritates me about warmth/heat is having to clear insects out of the house. At least at present it's still possible for me to keep my window open at night without having an insect invasion!

1986 didn't reach it until 1st May. The max in March was 14.0C and 17.0C in April. The first 15 days of April only reached double figures twice and from 1st January - 15th April it only reached 10C 26 times. Just to put it into perspective!

And I'd bet on April 1986 being sunnier than April 2018. It managed around 140 hours or so; still poor, but nothing like as bad as our forecast is showing. We won't even reach 50 hours by the 20th if it to be believed.

You know summer is approaching when the unrealistic expectations start.

Lovely the last couple of days.

Come on Nick, 18C is hardly unrealistic expectations in April lol, just like 26-27C isn't unrealistic in high summer.
