I have a friend who works for the Highways Agency,he has said all available salt is being sent to Europe as there will be limited need in Southern Britain, massive downgrades are expected next Sunday night, with blizzards expected in Africa, but transport costs don't stretch to there.

This make utterly no sense to me? Met office issue the info too to all agencies and such so their mid and long range doesn't add up to that comment either?

Is Africa your pet name for Dorset or something? :nea::rofl:

This is exactly what I've wanted to happen to the UK for years and years and years. Bring it on!

18Z has pantz-factor all over it for cold. But, if you take the OP at face value, then there's not much in the way of snow for the South. However, plenty in the North. As I said earlier, it's all academic looking at precip before the cold has even arrived, so it's not worth paying attention to at this stage.

Based on the ECM and today's 12Z and 18Z GFS - purely on cold snyoptics, I go for:

The BBC news at 10pm weather had Mr Shafernaker(sp) and you could see him getting exited about next week. Calling the East flow being like 'flowing honey'.

He'll be onto baked Alaskas by early next week!

Evening all, looks like this may actually happen then. May I suggest this.....seems like the perfect breakfast to start the day when we all finally wake up to deep powdery snow :-) https://www.bumblees.co.uk/product/gin-tonic-marmalade/

hmm.....whilst seeing bitterly cold charts is great, there is a dawning reality.......spare a thought for those of us who work outdoors and are self employed.....As my missus pointed out to me, a week unable to work and earn will put us right up the creek without a paddle.......not to mention the vunerable (elderly etc) .......I haven't posted in the model threads as it will just get shot down, but whilst snow and ice incoming on the outputs is nice etc, the wild ramping shown by many in there shows a real detatchment from the reality of what those kind of charts (if they verify) will have on the country

Yes, this is an issue for us. Him indoors is self employed and works outside. One of the reasons the mention of 2010 doesn't thrill me especially. There's no heating where I work but at least I can jump on a treadmill if I need to warm up. There's also the small issue of keeping pipes in unheated spaces from freezing too
