But (and this is probably a dumb question), do gas hobs still work if the power is out?

Welcome to my world ?

SLEDGE! I did this in 2010. I even took the sledge to the supermarket and bought shopping back on it!

Right where do I buy one from ???

No, just the ignition goes. Turn on as normal but light with a match, works fine and totally safe.

Ah that’s ok then - hot water bottles are go!

Haa Haa I just tentatively asked my husband if the cars had antifreeze in them and if our pipes were lagged, admittedly I didn't say why, because I'd just get laughed at, but instead of an answer I got an ear bashing about how over the top I am. Hmmmmmmm........... time will tell. I'm really willing this to happen now.

This is why I haven't told hybby yet! Although ater someone buying lagging I did ask but got no reply ....

Isn't a safety feature that if the electric is cut off , i.e. the ignition points are powerless that the gas is stopped?

Oh I thoguht you could still use with a match?

What do you use to cover your face? I have this one: https://www.mountainwarehouse.com/thaw-womens-down-3-in-1-jacket-p16817.aspx/ but I found it too thin.

So I brought this one - is it waterproof enough? ... https://www.mountain-equipment.co.uk/womens-skyline-parka

I have no decent footwear. Hmmm ...

I have a North Face similar to your burgundy one which is waterproof and great for wet snow/cold etc and I also have a long puffa like yours which is great for warmth but isn't waterproof what so ever and I'm not sure it's a good idea to water proof them if they're made of down.

I have a couple of fleece snoods and balaclavas from my skiing days which are great. Anything fleecy to cover your mouth and nose would be good. When it gets that cold we all look like zombies when we're wrapped up anyway.

I think a lot of the outdoor camping/hiking shops have a lot of winter boots on sale at the minute.

We get the occasional power cut and we use a match to light our gas hob but I think you need to be very careful. Having said that, our electric fan oven caught fire a couple of weeks ago, big flames coming from the back :nea:

I have found out my oven doesn’t work with out power even though it’s gas due to the fan not working but the gas rings  do as they are separate but I have to use a match or lighter to light them.
