Think I’ve figured it out... is it the drop in zonal winds (through the floor) to signify the SSW?

Pretty much, I believe it’s the reversal of the zonal winds in the strat.

Those decaying blobs are moving ever closer to me. Whether there’s anything left of them when they get here is another thing.

And the Catacol comment on the forming (In FI) SSW goes like this

"The east coast will be buried... and for those of us snow starved southerners (nothing again today :-( -  we have to hope there is enough of anything in the atlantic to provide some frontal system action somewhere along the line."

Haha, you gotta laugh really..

What is it?

Zonal winds at 10hpa going through the floor and then some, this what catacol and chio have been speaking about or this is just a small part.

Coldest day of the winter here. It reached 2.2c. Constant cloud cover helping I'd suggest. Currently at 0.1c hoping to beat this years lowest temp tonight.

My only comment about the SSW is that it ups our chances of a cold spell significantly. It’s futile to try and second guess how the pattern might evolve in the trop with any detail. Somewhere in mid latitudes is going to go into the freezer, some mid latitude locations won’t. We’ve a 2/3 chance of going cold. But with our luck that doesn’t really tell the entire picture does it lol.

''Twas very odd when I left work this afternoon . Hazy sun, bitterly cold rain and sleety then the odd snowflake.

cloudy when the sun set and really cold now.

Im feeling flu like despite the flu jab  wing given in September .

Did you see anything dec' 10 snow? In Taunton I mean ?

Whatever it is that stops precipitation getting there when you want it it’s doing a good job of it. Shame it doesn’t work when you don’t want it. Oh and it seems most of the time it works here too. :wallbash:

I remember back in Feb 2009 when this area was actually progged (if memory serves me correct) with a red weather warning for snow; until the district force field came into full effect :wallbash:

While we’re on the gap of nothingness a small heavier patch is heading straight for @Climate_Eyes

Left for work at 7am this morning, cold with a sprinkle of snow on the car, got to Eastington 5 miles west and an inch of gruapal/soft hail/snow covering everything ( very unusual to have the white stuff that way and not in Stroud) a random heavy shower was the reason and was no doubt the cause of the motorway accident that caused absolute traffic chaos this morning (luckily none seriously injured, 6 cars involved)

flurries on and off all day.

Now back home and seeing some slightly heavier flurries, a light sprinkling settling. With a hard frost later should make for a lovely early morning.

Overall a really wintry day.

Some flakes this morning and again at the moment, small flakes and very light, seem to take an age to fall to the ground.

The MAD thread seems to have disintegrated ?. There’s been no frame by frame analysis of the model runs today - well, not the same as usual anyway. Everyone is in the regionals chasing snow or looking at the forecast SSW I guess..
