Been thawing for most of the day here in Nottingham, even been a very fine drizzle in the air. Nice to have had some of the white stuff even if it wasn't quite on the snow levels of March 2013 and December 2010. It has been a fun week thats for sure

Slight thaw earlier on here but just got home from shopping to find the trees are all white with ice so presume the fog is now freezing fog

Yes Mark...

I went shopping at 2:30 with the temp at 1.0C, Came back and any thaw (not on salted)areas) had not changed at all.

Trees are also still in their winter garb.

Temp now at +0.4c but the dewpoint has fallen slightly to  -1.1C, It coincides with a strengthening of the easterly wind.

I have had a look into the Southern  and SW thread and although it appears to be rain/sleet in the central areas, it has turned to snow in Taunton!!!! South Wales is also experiencing snowfall with a bit of ice.

Could is be snow here? Will it reach here?

 Temp now at +0.3C

Been for a walk round Ticknall/calke park, most of the snow had been blown away from the exposed fields and dumped in the hedges as drifts - a couple of snowmen were standing guard over the grassy expanse mourning their lost snowfields, some of the snowdrifts were brown

Best thaw ever was 6 April 2008. I went out for a walk at dawn (~6am) and it was a Christmas card scene everywhere with 4-5 inches of untouched snow. The strong April sun got to work shortly afterwards, and by mid-afternoon it was a pleasant spring day with mostly dry roads and pavements.

good thaw yes, bright hot April sunshine, thaw of late March 2013 good too, as mostly melted by the sun

Temperature hasn't got above freezing again today, with thick cloud cover. Amazing how the snow is still thawing.

hear on this forum, that the sun dosen't make any difference to snowcover in Feb/Mar, absolute twaddle! it's higher too, so shines on way more areas than it would in Dec

the thaw in late Feb will be huge in sunshine even in -5C

Some serious big drifts taller than the 4x4s down the lanes around the village.

Many locals saying it's reminiscent of 63 and the worst they've seen since then.

It manages to heat the surfaces even with thick cloud cover. There hasn't been sunshine here in days.

It's rubbish when people say we can't get proper cold or snow late winter onward because of the sun's strength and longer daylight hours. We clearly can, it's just that the snow thaws more quickly.

yes true, late winter more likely to see snow, time of year thaws the snow though

Would like to have seen this cold spell a month earlier. Temperature records could well have been threatened if not broken. Wouldn't have been as much snow though. Less convection.

2 months earlier even better! probably less convection due to weak sun, but more off warmer sea

Snow/Sleet expected in Bham around 20:00-20:30. Precipitation looks heavy on radar, some yellow, orange and a bit of red so could quite quickly add to accumulation if it doesn't die down

It may be here before that looking at the radar

We cannot see your location.

Could you give us a rough idea?

It is just so we know which way it is coming and where it is...

I totally agree that the wind is increasing and it is turning colder as It is now down to 0.1C here in Solihull.

MIA posted in the model thread that this was the second-coldest 7-day period of late Feb/Mar, second only to 1947, going all the way back to 1772.

That's pretty amazing...

@Midlands Ice Age - did I get that right? It was from memory, forgive me if I lost a century here or there!

I was stood looking out of the patio doors in a bit of sun the other day and it felt lovely and warm, plenty of energy in it.
