Are we expecting the heavy stuff to move North?

According to Hirlam, Arpege and GFS - yes.

I almost fell off my chair then, I initially read that as "very very light rain". :p

Hi, I’m due to land at Birmingham airport this evening around 8pm. Can anyone give any indication of how bad it’s likely to get around there this evening/tonight please?

Northerly extent so far just underneath stoke

Watch it stay there. Bloody weather.

Tonnes of snow for my brother in Ireland and cousins in Devon. Plenty for the rest of my family in London. Hardly anything here.

Forecast guidance I've seen, issued just before 1pm for the western midlands counties indicates things will to start to pep up from around 1400 from the south, with a core period of snowfall across the region between 1600 and 2100. Between 5 and 10 cm is forecast in the south, 4 to 8cm further north. This is, of course, still subject to amendment and change.

To be fair Matt so long as the models and MetO are correct, then it is supposed to go well north and leave through the NE coast. So should start going more north at some point.

Looks decent on the radar. Just had no luck this week. Really want to go to Park Hall Country Park tomorrow and take snowy photos. Tried to back in December but my phone wouldn't work.

The nw wolverhampton snowshield is coming into action again, started falling ok, but the radar shows the evidence.

Pepped up just a tad here in Bewdley. Still not exactly heavy, but I can see it without squinting now.

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
