Got in on a bit of the heavier stuff now. Putting down a quick sugar coating but moving on through quick looking at the radar.

I'm no expert but the reason that the snow is melting even when it's below freezing is due to Sublimation.. It's actually evaporating rather than melting due to the very dry wind and solar warmth from the sun.

"sublimation is most often used to describe the process of snow and ice changing into water vapor in the air without first melting into water...."

https://water.usgs.gov/edu/watercyclesublimation.html

Nick also mentioned it in his NW Blog... https://www.netweather.tv/weather-forecasts/news/8752-the-beast-from-the-east-cometh

I`ve seen that happen many years ago from very dry easterlies and very light snowfalls like yesterday`s showers/flurries snow just evaporates away in minus temps.

Well its shot upto 1.4c here now 0.5c

Sun back out in Coventry now, but the next lot is over Spalding - Bourne - Oakham way should hit Cov again in the next couple of hours (Again, ties up with the Met Office). That's the path the last lot took, and this looks to be doing the same :):):)

Cool that amber's are out, don't cover much of the midlands yet, but they're very likely to be revised leading up to T0.

The MetO website says three Western counties of the Midlands in this Amber - note the Impact Matrix - highest level of disruption BUT medium-low level of likelihood

Heavy shower came through Derby just after 11am, nice coverings in the shade but

sun out melting where it can get at it, 0C at the moment, notice NW free radar having

a few problems updating :nonono:

Ah not just me then, I can't get it to update either.

Another snow showers here about 10 minutes ago but not as heavy as the one earlier.

EDIT: The radar problems are due to the Met Office having data transmission problems so we just have to bear with I am afraid.

Lol in Halesowen so in the yellow, just, and Just outside the Amber, tight on the edge of anything snow wise by the looks. Coming down prettily now though, largest flakes of the day (5p sized)

The warning covers parts of Hereford, Shropshire and Worcester.   As shown by the map.

It also appears to cover my front drive but not my back garden :D

Thanks, yes, parts of, not all of... the weather doesn't pay much attention to local govt boundaries :)

so, you'll be nipping out the front door, not the back :)

Best snow shower of this cold spell so far. Surprised some of it was quite wet. Settles instantly but melts as soon as the soon comes out. Need to be under more persistent snow showers to keep a covering.

Shot a video but can't post it :-/

A bit weird here now...

Last shower went through as hail. This one (just starting) started as hail, but turned to snow and has now eased off.

They are certainly rattling through and are becoming more and more convective.

Could be a quieter  couple of hours now.

Hopefully more later on.

MIA

Yellow warning for Friday Saturday has been extended north a bit. Surely means more confidence that we will be affected.

App now gives a high of 1 degrees on Saturday. It was up to 3 yesterday.

Im willing to bet a virtual pint that by Friday that the midlands, say Birmingham to be more specific, will be in an Amber zone
