Honestly mate this SSW talk is so draining i cant be asked with it anymore lol!!one minute the models show a nice scandi high and then ecm comes along and blows the atlantic up!!am gona take a few days off most probably from the MOD thread and just focus on the regional ones!!too depressing in that thread sometimes lol!

Yes the cheshire Gap is coming to life Temporary coverings of hail and snow

Hopefully once the sun disappears the coverings will start to last longer

Im not going to disagree there, Early days yet so understandably models will be earatic. But interesting how they evolve once everything is on board so to speak.. Anyway as others have said showers realy packing in now so an interesting afternoon/eve hopefully on the way.

Definitely more sanity in the regional threads. Lots of contradictions and nit picking at times on the MOD forum, stops making sense in the end!:sorry:

CS..

I have just had the hail/snow shower that DWW reported here in Solihull.

It was quite strong here and left a covering on the lawn, which had disappeared after 10mins.

Does this qualify as laying snow?

I am counting it as a snow falling event, but is it a 'lay' day.

Anyone know what the definition is?

I need  to be correct with my stats.

It hasn't been a problem in the last 4 years here!:yahoo:

MIA

Edit temp at 3.2C,wind chill at 2.1C and dew point of -1.6C. I suspect the actual temp dropped rapidly during the shower.

The DP will probably explain why it 'stuck'.

Upper air temperatures should fall by another degree or so this afternoon. May help bring more in the way of 'proper' snow. Hopefully a better chance of a longer lasting covering after dark.

Looking out to the west and north it seems very hit and miss for the West Midlands.  Unless its going to pep up later, cant see it amounting to much

Possibly. Showers are however very sparadic  Tuesday looks the best. However it is marginal

Wind directions is quite variable between W and NW, so no streamers so far.

The Euro4 has the highest and most widespread risk of showers this evening though, by which time surface temperatures should be falling (General shower risk continues well into the night).

Also, uppers will be a degree lower then and lower still tonight (around -7 at the moment).

Sleety showers in Belper this morning but nothing particularly heavy or prolonged. I think the Peak District is draining the life out of them before they get here.
