Lots of snow in Ashby, then suddenly went from heavy snow to rain a few mins ago.  A good few cms.

Yes that’s whats happened on my drive from Wythall to Lickey, heavy snow and temp of 0c, then an abrupt change to icy rain, no temp increase before the changeover and caughtcme by surprise a bit, as thought we were good for another 30-60 mins at least.

At least no nasty surprises. We knew it would turn to rain this time. Unlike the last 4 winters where any snow we we were predicted unexpectedly and cruelly turned to rain just as it was getting going.

And seeing we already have what happened last month safely in the bank this winter, I don't feel let down. Was well predicted this morning. All turning a bit uninteresting for a bit now so will catch up at the next event, whether it snow, wind, thunder or the first heatwave of the year. (I hope something else happens before that last one though!)

Just come around 10 mins north of mine to Brown Edge in Staffs Moorlands and whilst down at 500m it is slushy mess now, here at 800m or so it is a winter wonderland still. -1c currently.

Most snow of the year for Derby. Carnage on the roads and surrounding areas  - especially any with altitude. In fact so much so, I had a car crash in Crich and wasn't the only one. Total carnage. Idiot!

Even though snow depths were small (1 inch) over the last 2 days, will always remember this nice little wknd of snow. Mainly because there was no forecast of it till Friday.

what a bonus and a great winter for the west mids so far

A video from Friday nights snow over the Cat and Fiddle. There isn't a great deal to see as it was getting dark but gives you an idea of how the road conditions had improved albiet only the main roads.

Teaming down with rain. Horrible now the milder upper air mass has moved in.

Few people realise that rain doesn't speed up snow melt, no matter how hard it falls. It's the air temperature and dew point that melts snow. All rain does is create an icy mess.

Indeed, there is still snow in sheltered patches, a very icy snow but it hasn't washed away as much as I thought. Conditons aren't nice though with the grass being waterlogged.
