Took from SW thread. Looking good means the colder air is way further south and west than predicted.

That looks promising.

What we need is an easterly element to the wind.

This will mean that-

1) slightly lower pressure is developing and running to our south.

2) we get an undercut to the warm air hence delaying ite arrival.

At the moment it seems to be southerly.

Flakes are getting pretty big here now, about an inch everywhere on top of the covering from yesterday. Reckon it will be rain by lunchtime though

Telford's doing amazingly this winter - woke to a good inch covering everything, no ground visible at all, even where a couple of cars had turned and driven out, car-tracks still totally white... it was snowing with fine powdery flakes, but quite heavily. That was before 8am and it hasn't stopped.

Bigger flakes now, with an easterly slant to them.

It was supposed to already be sleet or even rain acc'g several forecasts, so this is obviously something they are struggling to predict accurately!

Out of interest... given that virtually none of this was forecast for round here a couple of days ago, how definite is this "turning to rain" for this afternoon?!  I mean if there is now lying snow all over the place, is that going to affect the track of warmer air?

Tbh I thought the same thing, I think it may take a bit longer but the milder air is definitely coming unfortunately so will be raining by early afternoon I would think

I have been wondering about that  BMW.

It is not impossible as heaviest precipitation is over S Wales and is moving eastwards.

Could it be a low forming at the point of inflexion? (I mean the T piece in the fronts).

Also people in Bedfordshire/Surrey area are reporting  ESE winds and as already mentioned the temp is falling in the SE..

That is a good sign

Lets all keep our fingers and toes crossed!:drunk-emoji:

Its turned very fine and a little sleetyish now  here.

Temp still at+0.5C and dp at -0.4C.

Looking good (possibly).
