Oh and 0C with an extra inch fallen this morning. We're back up to 9cm again. And now I'm wondering if there is anywhere else in the world where metric and imperial measurements get used in the same breath? ;-)

I work in St Andrews (where it is snowing lightly but not accumulating) so can't comment on Broughty Ferry until I get home this evening. Tempted to do what @Benvironment suggests and rush home to check....but that would just jinx it! :D

You'll have to wait until around 6pm for confirmation, I'm afraid. :D

Phone a neighbour, the local garage, a taxi company! Come on dude be resourceful

The pavements of Glasgow we’re like an ice rink this morning, last nights snow and rain froze over into a thick sheet.

Doesnt seem like there’s been any more snowfall here since last night. Certainly nothing that has accumulated.

And spoil the surprise? No way! :D It will have to be a lot heavier on the other side of the Tay coast than it is here in St Andrews right now if it's going to accumulate,  I'll say that much.

Is that part of this kinky little thing?

What is that??

I noticed that on the BBC forecast last night when they ran the pressure charts, they had an area of heavy snow attached to it that tracked directly across the central belt but with everything being further north at the moment, I wouldn't be all that surprised if it's slightly north of where was forecast.

My thoughts too...could spell carnage.

They also mentioned a period of heavy snow with blizzards moving across the south in the afternoon  (Ayrshire south wards) so it could be that too... Either way the radar is looking better :D

Another bleak mid winter day here in the trossachs  ( well if your a mildie)

Snow has been on and off all morning  5cm on top of  half inch of ice from last night bringing the total  back up to 15cm on the ground again . It really has been a great winter's  week.

I noticed they we're talking about  avalanches  in the alps next week obviously it's the Arrochar one's :D

That area of the Central Belt just north of the Forth looks like it's getting plastered this morning! That area of ppn extends back some distance!

courtesy of Sean batty about 15 mins ago. Unfortunately no times attached but from what I can fathom it still has the aforementioned kink loaded with snow to track of the central belt

It’s even heavier than Tuesdays lot. Can only just see the houses across the road through the snow.

That blob out west still looking alright for the central belt, simply because it's pretty hefty so has more margin for error north or south

But the question is trajectory.  Due east or ESE?

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
