Well, snaw stopped here.

It was getting on for a couple of new cms but the T was rising at the same time so net slow thawing now.

1.7 C.

Bloody knackered after dragging a heavy Ikea bag half a mile over a snow covered road. The husband, being macho and 6ft, carried his. I'm a lot nearer the ground so dragged mine. I'm sure one arm is now 3ft longer than the other one.

Watch oot.

Next lot seems to be coming in as snaw too. So far at least.

At 1.6 C here, I can't see any net gains though. DP -1.8 C though, hence snaw.

Yeah but it's too warm to settle now. Except on my phone :wallbash:

Next band has arrived as snow here too - albeit fairly wet snow. Quite surprised.

Edit: Heaviest snow of the day but not much sign of it settling.

Here’s my prediction: there will be a run on wet bulb thermometers as Christmas presents later this year. If you have another half start dropping hints now. :D

On your December observation though, is it wings and roundabouts i.e. would a sufficiently cold pool have even been available out of NE Europe/Asia to have provided the opportunity for those low 850 temperatures we recently experienced ?

Great photos! :)

Good question but based on our experiences in 2010 (and thinking back to December 1981) I would say yes, it could happen, with the right set up. Let’s hope we get to test the theory in December 2018 :D

I know @edo won’t hear of it but for those who have had enough snow and/or are ready for spring...I think the saturation point for love of snow is an interesting question.

i thought mine was quite high but I must admit, having experienced a couple of Canadian winters, I reached a point where I was glad to see the back of it...probably more aimed at ice rather than snow per se but the two tend to go together!

Age may possibly be another factor. As a youngster I would always take a cold winter over a  warm summer but these days, it’s a close run thing!

I thought I was happy enough with the end of this cold spell and the snow but......watching this snow falling and not settling is rather disappointing :D

heavy snaw on since 2pm and still coming down, no let up in sight on the radar, I guess the dust bins will be off again tomorrow.

Well it stayed snaw tae the end here. Not amounted to much though; maybe a wet cm. Looked impressive, but too much warmth in the air.

If it freezes the night, would be lethal.

Rain here and snow melting quite quickly. It’s been a great few days of sledging and walking in the snow but I have had my fun and so have the kids. I am hoping for some dry and sunny weather but the charts are not showing that, it looks pretty unsettled over the next couple of weeks with still some snow potential.

Back edge of that snow band has turned to light rain here. A sad end to a fantastic, memorable week :D

the blizzard rages on here. what an amazing week it has been, making this move to Scotland was a long time in planning and something I had wanted to do for such a long time, I have been amazed at this winters weather and I hope it continues for many winters to come.
