Just so the Embra folks don't feel like they are alone, NE Fife and Dundee are largely missing out and have been for the last 6 hours or so.... we feel your pain! :D

Perth and I expect slightly west of here (Crieff and Comrie) too!

Fingers crossed though, and I'm 'slightly' happier now as someone said something about more tonight and tomorrow... so, still 'in progress'!

RED WARNING ISSUED

  • Central, Tayside & Fife
  • SW Scotland, Lothian Borders
  • Strathclyde

Between 15:00 Wed 28th and 10:00 Thu 1st

Heavy snow showers and drifting of lying snow in the strong easterly winds will become more widespread across the area later on Wednesday afternoon, through the evening and overnight into Thursday. Roads will become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers. Long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel are expected. Some communities could become cut off for several days. Long interruptions to power supplies and other services.

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Snow showers already affecting the area will become heavier and more prolonged later on Wednesday afternoon and at times through the evening and overnight period, with 5 cm of snow falling within an hour in some places and lying snow reaching 20-30 cm and possibly 40 cm in a few places by mid morning on Thursday. Strong easterly winds will lead to significant drifting of lying snow.

Yey!

THUNDER SNOW! :yahoo:

Out in park with the dog, only one thunderclap but loud and it was snowing!

Some more doggy pics after I've had a cuppa.

Are they likely to upgrade the NE Scotland one too or is that yet lot?

Nah, we're hardier than those soft central belters.

Seriously, probably more to do with population density causing it to be raised rather than severity. If the M8 is closed with snow and people stranded everyone takes notice, if the B979 is the same.....

It's been quite full on here (up the hill) in Falkirk. It's been coming down in sheets Husband sent home from work in Glasgow has just ploughed his way up the path.

Red warning out.

Just about to head home as well whilst there is a wee lull in the chaos.
