Did I see a -20C 850 hit Lerwick on one chart or am I imagining it?

Yikes.

00z GFS is going to causing a major Toorpage later...looks like it's pushed the colder air further south (into France)

This mornings ECM is going to cause a second fury of flung toys too. Not that either model's output is awful, just nowhere near as good as recently. This morning's trend from both seems to be less of a push of cold air from the east, but its still there, and a quicker turn around to à more northerly direction. That may be just as good for many of us, eventually, but will have the southerly contingent crying into thier breakfast cornflakes.

La Plagne (1800), but I've a bit more time yet than yersel.

There's already 2 m there at my resort, 4 m at the top and 50 cm at the very lowest level down the valley. :shok:

Just hope it's not baltic. Although as you get into March, the sun is getting strong, so unless it's snowing, should be ok if you keep out of the shadows. Can always ski the lowest levels in the trees if it's the day aifter the morn conditions. :cold:

---

EDIT

Local report for southern Lauderdale is 0 cm at the base, 0 cm at the top and a light frost at all levels. Snaw forecast.

I don’t know why people are moaning,  yes some of the models are not showing the severe -18 uppers big deal! They still look great with plenty of snow potential over the next couple of weeks. No sign of boring SW winds and rain. The cold is coming and so is the snow, so plenty of fun and games ahead :)

A week today - and look what's peering over the North Sea at us!

I swear if HC, Northern Strath and I don't get a beautiful north easterly event out of this then I'm going to have to leave this thread and starting hanging out in the model one. :whistling:

EDIT 00Z GFS was more on the milder side, if -10C 850s can be called that.

I like the skiing at Serre Chevalier. When we were there there was oodles of fresh snow when some of the main resorts had a bit of a drought.

Meanwhile today my daughter is up at Glenshee enjoying the sunshine and empty slopes. This was the car park when she arrived.

Really good point @snowy owl - enjoy what should be really rather pleasant weather for many over the next few days. For years I used to scan the outer depths of the model runs and read all sorts of commentary on what may happen and why....and then a couple of years ago I backed away from that and started focusing on the short term (up to 5 days) outlook. I glance at the GFS and ECM runs twice a day but nowadays that's all I do - have stopped reading MO threads altogether.

Personally, I find it much more rewarding as I'm looking at weather that is likely to happen in the short term rather than what may happen at a longer distance. I'm certainly not having a go at anyone who is interested in longer term model watching (I did it myself for years!)  - just a bit of personal reflection on the changing habits of a weather fan! :) I've gone all zen, basically. :D

"Les Trois Vallées" of Scotland.

Looks bluebird.

Seems bases are holding up well; hopefully they get a decent dumping over the next couple of weeks.

Sun's not managed to break through here although it is bright cloud's lingered. No wind to stir the atmosphere either

Trapped in works at bridge of Oich. I read bear Scotland are building a portal to China from the A82 - could this be it. If I start posting in mandarin, you'll have the answer. Loch Oich looks wonderful, ripply reflections in late sunlight. Was cold all day in the shade.

Has our day after tomorrow gone tits up?

PS at least there's 4G at bridge of Oich!

Oh my!

h850t850eu.png

That's screaming very heavy snow for central Highland. Most of northern Scotland in fact!
