Clear skies this morning but a covering overnight on the grass and paving. It has half melted and now frozen solid on the road.

Stuck at home with the lurgy this morning - it's 0C but bone dry and just lingering bits of wispy cloud. Doesn't look like incoming showeriness at all.

The Model runs are completely all over the place at the moment. I think the best option is to just focus short term on our snow chances (since we have that luxury to take our minds off the further outlook) and revert back to looking at the models more in detail beggining to middle of next week. I do have the feeling that after the warming has occurred and had a couple of days to propogate downwards that the charts will suddenly swing to a mass of high - mid latitude blocking. Whether it be favourable or not remains to be seen, and yes we can make a good go at predicting what the ssw will lead to tropospherically but the models just seem to struggling. It feels like one of those scenarios where suddenly everything changes and a cold speed appears from nowhere at 5 days out.

I agree Ruzzi, forget about the SSW just now. There are plenty of snow chances for Scotland over the next week starting from tomorrow night. Just browse through the first 96 hours on the models and you can see we are in for some decent snowfall across most of Scotland.

Was snowing this morning at the house, showery though, just a covering as I left and -2c

Have had some heavy showers where I'm working this morn too, near sea level and just north of Inverness

This winter is casually notching up the numbers. Snow falling at the house in 8 out of the last 10 days with a similar forecast ahead by the looks. In total we've now had over 3 feet of snow fall since December 7th, the glens further west will be reporting more than that. Winter 17/18 you sneaky wee sod you ❄️

Slightly puzzled by the mood of despair in the model thread this morning considering the next week looks like a polar maritime airmass will dominate and going forward there seems to be clear signals for blocking at high latitudes.

Considering the SSW doesn't even occur until early next week and the fact that any downwelling from the stratosphere leading to more favourable tropospheric conditions will take weeks as opposed to days, why on earth are they all complaining that an easterly isn't showing in the medium term? Especially given the fact that NWP is so volatile at the moment!

Feeling very positive about the coming month and early March but baffled, as always.

To put some perspective on that I would estimate I’ve accumulated about half of what you’ve had since 7th December (i.e 18” or 45cm) in the 13 years I’ve lived in coastal NE Fife and now Dundee.  That may even be an overestimate!

.Another crisp sunny day with snow showers dotted around  the horizon round the Firth.Had a lot of these days this winter which in spite of not seeing a lot of lying snow like those further west has at least made it look and feel like proper winter. Currently 3c with frost first thing which came in with the daylight.
