Liverpool taf has rain/snow from 7:00 to 11:00, then freezing rain until 13:00.

Manchester has rain/snow followed by snow followed by freezing rain.

On the nightshift again ..looks and feels like temps have increased as the night as gone on round here..

No frost now ..

Not putting much stock in today hand on heart...hoping we can squeeze in an easterly sometime in Feb.

Main bulk of precipitation already knocking on the door of the west coast and echoes breaking out to the South of Manchester...

This is way earlier than EURO4 predicted. Let's also hope it is wrong with it's miserable snow predictions!

It's raining.. as I feared dewpoints stayed above 0C all night. Conditions don't seem to be favourable for evaporative cooling suggesting the milder uppers are racing in.

Light sleet here, not far away. Dewpoint dropping.

I think the precipitation is only just hitting the West coast, as confirmed by Chris. The echoes ahead of this are likely false returns I think.

Manchester Airport TAF still holding firm on suggestion of snow between 09:00 and 11:00. Chance of freezing rain suggested after 12:00.....yuk!

One or two massive snowflakes mixed in with the rain

Looking for posts in the Wales thread for snow inspiration. No posts for 6 hours so I'm guessing it's raining there.

If freezing rain is being suggested then surely sleet will be freezing sleet and snow that falls will stick otherwise how can you have freezing rain after all that?

Halkyn is rain.. like here. There may be a very tight west to southwest to northeast gradient here

Just had a look outside, it’s still very icy out there but can’t see anything falling yet.

Local observations showing temperature and dew point both at zero degrees atm. Now we just need the precipitation.

It might be the grainy camera image but some of the traffic cameras on the A55 around Penmaenmawr to Conwy appear show snow falling.. perhaps it is cooling in the heavier precipitation as it is raining in Halkyn at 300m asl and also here for now

Freezing levels were supposed to fall all morning down to about 800 feet by 11:00 as that layer of cold air just above the surface grows.

Has Halkyn got it's own microclimate? The reports I see for up there often seem to suggest rain when it is snowing at much lower levels. I guess it is relatively close to the coast which may explain things. :)

No usually it's a bank for snow in these situations but recently it doesn't seem to be getting snow like it used to. You used to be able guarantee snow in Halkyn in these situations there but for whatever reason it's not really snowing much now even in favoured conditions.

Rain :yahoo:

In that case you'd better hope and pray that rain shadow is in good working order!

For you chaps up north, snowing moderately in Stiperstones, slight cover on ground. Very wet and windy. Saturday was best for snow with up to 2 inches of wet up top. Down low it was only a trace of snow on the ground. The snow we had in December was lovely dry powder but fell on wet ground. January snow so far is really pants - wet on wet transient. We need a week of hard frosts, solid ground and then a breakdown of blizzard proportions - this is not dissimilar to what Scotland has at this present time.
