Can anyone explain why snow is more likely to fall at 9pm than 2am when it should be colder. Why would the temp go up ??????

ECM and UKMO have the low slightly south according to the model thread.

Ive looked at the EC temps and the mild sector looks further north than the 12z runs yesterday- there is the chance those with high altitude might see snow tho..

There could well be a meteorological reason, but my best guess would be the usual, computer generated forecasts are not worth the paper (screens) they are written on.

The coldest air starts to leave us by then. There is quite a sharp jump up in thicknesses, 850s and 500 mbar temperatures.

It’s always been forecast to do that. It will be back on Thursday.

Lot of ramping in the Mod thread.

No bans though they aren’t from the NW.

Well it’s hailing here in Chorley so if the showers do beef up later i’m hoping for snow.

The thicknesses are actually at their coldest by midnight

Thck 850-1000 hPa EURO4 We 17.01.2018 00 GMT

Still cold enough at 3am

Thck 850-1000 hPa EURO4 We 17.01.2018 03 GMT

Likewise, the 850s are about the same between 6pm and 6am

Height/Temp. 850 hPa EURO4 Tu 16.01.2018 18 GMT

The dew point rises slightly through the night but still sub-zero

Dew point EURO4 We 17.01.2018 03 GMT

I suspect that it's just the BBC weather graphics if I am honest.

The difference between midnight and 6 AM is enough to remove any chance at the coast.
