Great pic! Yes, hats off to Chris for an amazingly accurate prediction!

Cheers the pretty boring bench pic just shows how the altitude made the temps drop below freezing so stuck to everything, even with everything being wet.

Heavy stuff now directly overhead, meaning we have proper moderate snow now, with good sized flakes, giving roads a covering at last. Earlier on it was too light in nature leaving roads clear. Looks like it could last upwards of an hour before turning back to sleety rain, but temps are only expected to climb very slowly through the afternoon, so grassy surfaces at least should retain a cover through daylight hours - making for a proper snow day. It will all be gone tomorrow, but good to see.

Snow almost stopped here so looks like we will be spared most of the rain.

Good 50p size flakes coming down now. Best snow of the season so far I think.

A slushy thick dusting here which is now rapidly melting so no great shakes in terms of settled snow. Nice to see an hour or so of heavy snow though. Onwards to the next event.

Snow has stopped...didn't manage to accumulate!  Now very light rain after a shower of ice pellets!  The radar shows more snow heading my way but I won't hold my breath!

Well that takes the snow falling days up to three, started to lay on the grass on two of those days then stopped.

On to the next ? looking at the models that will be sometime in February then which is annoying. We are definitely overdue a winter with a sustained cold & snowy pattern, that is for sure.

Looks like a nice big gap has opened up in the radar which is brilliant no rain for me it would appear and plenty of snow on the ground!

Very gusty now. Fed-up of the wind after last week.

Hopefully there will be a rapid change in the models. I had high hopes for this week just gone, and whilst it delivered some interesting weather at times, didn't match the anticipation of what might have been.

They don't make Snow to rain events like they used to.

Years gone by we would have a dumping of snow (8-10 inches) the snow would get lighter and lighter then become drizzle..Fog would descend and the slow drip drip would begin.

An hour or so later the roaring sound of the snow sliding off the roof in a huge lump, making a huge mound of snow where it had landed.

Saw this happen many times when I was younger.

Yes I can vouch for this.. although 8-10 inches is an extreme rarity here.

Right now I can hear the palm trees rustling in the wind

If anyone really want to know how poor the Wirral climate is for cold and snow.. take a look at this palm tree in Wirral (taken in November) which would rival those in the Mediterranean. Just so people have a gague of what a cold weather fan in Wirral has to put up with.

Last event remotely like that was 23 December 2009. Got 4 inches that day here.

At that point it's a good idea to ask why you bloody live there?
