Snow pepped up a little in the last hour but still fairly light and quite sleety in nature, so not really covering all surfaces, it wouldn't take much though for this to happen just a bit more intensity. I think the heavy stuff isn't due for a couple of hours, but thats when the front will be moving through and it probably won't last long. Will wait and see. Many fell roads are closed now.

Going to take a walk now, above 200 metres, so shall see what its like there.

Always more special when it snows on a lazy sunday morning, less traffic about, few people around all adds to the solitude and special feel.

Heavier stuff is on the outer fringes of Manchester now, but will the rain/snow shadow open up to the east of GM?  Seen the odd bits of sleet coming down but nothing newsworthy.

PS - Just reading through the  wiki for Winter 2010-11.  Really was quite exceptional.  Will we be referring back to that in 20/30 years time like our ancestors did for '47 & '63?

Quite a strange mix of partially melted snowflakes, some ice pellets and raindrops now. Getting heavier again.

Light snow here. Hopefully it'll settle though when the heavier stuff comes through rather being a repeat of yesterday's nice for five minutes but miserable by lunchtime affair of heavy snow falling straight into slush and melting away - could have been 2-3 inches from that I reckon.

According to the gfs precipitation charts it should be snowing across the region now. A classic example of the gfs overdoing the wintry element.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
