I think it is going to slide pass to the north of Greater Manchester, unless it develops further south.

Doesn't seem to be sliding NW to SE as you expect, there seems to be quite a westerly component.

Still some heavyish returns near Liverpool. Perhaps that will also intensify...

Started here and not rain, not sleet, not hail but that most unusual of sites proper snow.

light at the moment but the radar shows a large area of heavier stuff heading this way so maybe a reasonable covering.

Going as expected. Heaviest precipitation  should be just after midday. That is also the time when the wind is most off-shore and the freezing level is lowest.

It is indeed a miracle ..snowing properly now...will struggle to stick though as everywere is soaking wet from preceding rain.

Its breaking up about 5 miles west of me lol.

I think winds are from SSE so dreaded rain shadow? Mind you, they are very light so shouldn't really have as much effect as usual?

And this sums up living on the Wirral! Rain over Wirral, Liverpool, CRAP!

I just wonder whether the city centre urban heat effect is now having a greater impact also, over the last 20 years the city centre here has grown a lot and is still expanding. That couple with being by the coast isn't a good mix atall!

Not sure where abouts in Blackburn you are but it's sticking to grass here despite 5 days of rain/sleet/hail saturated ground - so you should be okay. Definitely the heaviest snow we've had since that event in early December.

Scratch that, appears to be  turning more and more sleety now.

Radar says it's above me, but nothing is falling from the sky. Non event here I think. And my car thermostat was reading 2c.

oh well, off to work I go. :sorry:

Spoke to soon, I now have very light rain too.

It will have an impact for sure as concrete is warmer than grass and it gives off warmth, London has the biggest UHI in the UK, it's rare for snow to settle in central London unless there is a potent cold spell. Plus it's ridiculously warm at night in summer there, not my cuppa tea.

Being on a coastal hill or in an urban area seems to consign your chances to the bin

Classic mamchester rain shadow effect in action today.

Shouldn't this have less of an effect with winds so light/almost calm?
