18z gfs still suggesting tomoreow afternoon and evening as the regions best hope..

Thanks. I guess we will just have to see what happens tomorrow. All a bit underwhelming so far considering we have been under a warning since 11:00.

TBH I can’t remember the last weather warning I was under that turned out to be justified, probably Boxing Day 2015.

certainly non of the warnings this winter have come close with a couple for winds that turned out to be little more than leaf rustlers, two for fog where we had clear starry skies and several for snow which either changed course at the last minute of ended up as rain.

one day, maybe tomorrow potential with become reality.

GFS 18z PPN charts (for what they are worth) don't show much shower activity overnight, looks to kick off around 3 to 6am and pep up come the afternoon, dying out tomorrow night.

Yeah quiet until the early hours now, maybe if we’re lucky we can get a few breaks in the clouds to drop the temperature.

well im on the nightshift and im in chadderton oldham at 150m and the shower just here is rain.

Not even a frost round here under the supposedly colder uppers.

Last chance tomorrow evening but if its rain now i think it might be time to just give in with this nwly, or whatever it is, its just not cold enough..

Uppers have been downgraded slightly on the 18z unfortunately. I’m just expecting a wimpier version of Tuesday, so will have to go up on the hills if I want to see any lying snow.

Time to look towards the next spell I think, though we might be waiting a while!

Some instability for a short time between about 6:00 and 9:00 tomorrow morning so there should be some good showers around then. The coldest 850s have been delayed somewhat  and now occur in the afternoon with -8s around for a time.

Just a note: if you are within 25 miles from the coast tonight; clearing skies will not drop the temperature, in fact it will probably have the opposite effect.

Mod thread is an absolute joke tonight. Don’t read it unless you want to be bored to death...or aggravated to death.

Yes, Tuesday evening was good fun with all the thunder snow/hail, but this week really hasn't delivered snow wise for much of the region as we hoped/anticipated at the start of the week. The most noteworthy thing here this week was the wind on Wednesday night.

What do we think about the prospects for Sunday? GFS says no for snow away from high ground. ICON and Arpege indicate potential for a period of heavy snow in parts of the region. Metoffice forecast not great for Sunday.

Snowing !!

Wow, you've waited long enough, being a 24/7 shift worker, I know how  soul destroying it is when it falls at work. Make the most NW, I hit lucky having days off yesterday as recently I've been driving into work as it's started so chuffed I've hit lucky. But night shift prevails for the Sunday event. Enjoy

Proper big fluffy flakes and settling on everything! Lovely! I would say it looks drier than what we had on Tuesday/Wednesday!
