Totally agree with you on this Geordiesnow (vaguelly remember you posting in the NE thread when I used to live there too) - when you got a shower pattern form in the North Sea, you knew there'd be more come in in this style of event, whereas here you get those wider gaps. I might move back over there one day - but I've decided I'm moving to Tow Law/Consett if I do :D

There was at times where showers did form chains and you could be in a dry slot for a while but I found it easier to follow individual cells and had a good view towards the North and East too see the shower clouds heading our way. From what I can see in this region it' a lot more random and the showers are more localised also.

Is it just me or are the showers starting to head more westerly now? hopefully can get some of the beefier showers soon.

For what it's worth the last shower we just had was full proper snow, didn't settle though.

Didn’t someone say that the low needs to move over Wales and exit at the Wash to make our chances of snow happen? Isn’t that what some of the charts on 12z are now showing? (See Karyo’s post above)

Why don't you add your location in your profile so that we know where you are?

Those showers passing through Scotland would cover the whole of the North West!

Thanks Snow free zone, not able to check out what's happening - but that is a typical streamer when WNW wind.

Sort of: Fylde Coast - Preston/Chorley - Blackburn/North Bolton - Rossendale/North Bury - Hebden/Rochdale and then into the Pennines.

Often get another streamer further south into Manchester - Stockport/Glossop/Buxton kind of area.

Or you get lines of showers (troughs) perpendicular to the flow which effect all, with gaps between

We just need to see what develops.  Shower distribution always hard to predict.

Then of course need to worry about whether it is cold enough!!

Bollington it is in my profile not sure why this doesn’t show up anymore in posts

Click your picture to the left of your post. Your profile should load. Should say 'edit profile' in the top right. Scroll down to location and enter it there if it's blank. If not, then there's something wrong.

if the flow is west, or just south of west still, that's typical.  Showers north of M62.  Just north of west and the streamers I mention above are more typical.

bored.

just had a proper look at this

2-6 cm of snow is likely in places, especially on higher ground above 100-200 m, where a few places in the Pennines and upland Wales may see more than 10 cm. A slushy cover of 1 to 3 cm seems more likely at lower levels and closer to the western coasts, as well as across most of southern England, with some areas here seeing very little or no snow. Drifting may occur on cross-Pennine routes in the strong to gale force winds.

so high ground may get a massive 2cm!!

I'm at low level so I may be expecting 1-3cm of slush or 'very little or 'no' snow!

I'm edging towards this being a bust!!!

....be well happy with a "slushy cover"  -2 ASL

looks to be a fair old gap now for our parts, needs a slight more northerly element to it for me
