Where's Yamkin?!

As expected, snow will push in later on Sunday into Monday, hence the latest MetO Ice & Snow warning.
The Stratosphere is warming dramatically which will split the polar vortex enabling a very cold airflow across Western Europe including the UK.
The MetO have now updated their February forecast for a very cold month.

So if, IF, we do wake up to a covering Monday morning, what are the chances of it sticking around?

Chief Forecaster's assessment

Scattered rain, sleet and snow showers are expected to be most frequent across Kent and East Sussex during Sunday evening before also affecting parts of East Anglia and Greater London later in the night. Showers are likely to fall as rain along eastern coasts but inland locally 1-3 cm of snow could accumulate, mainly over hills above 100 metres.

Just been having a look at the 12z UKMET-G and made me raise an eye brow for snow potential Sunday night / Monday morning. Decent ppn signal, 500mb low and vorticity max over northern France will aid ascent and the flow is ideally ENE and strong too

Sub -8C T850s will do too

Yes Nick,

Made me raise an eye brow too, much more an ENE flow there, after models had been predicting, a more definite NE flow, during Saturdays forecasts. Will be at Chislehurst, just east of Bromley, from Monday afternoon, I may be in with a chance, of a slight  covering, by the time I arrive there. Good to see those colder dewpoints, moving south-westwards, towards our area.

BR7, 50 mts higher and colder, than SE12, hoping to see some of the white stuff, during my 2 week stay.

Regards,

Tom.:hi:

Heavier showers, now moving towards Kent and E.Sussex.

https://www.buienradar.nl/

And with dew points, continuing to fall, these showers could start to turn wintry, soon.

Love it. Did you see my question on model thread. You may have missed it as its got busy on there lol... Don't know why ?? ☺☺?

Unfortunately, they’re nothing like that now and have been watered down a lot.

Hopefully mid month onwards will bring a proper cold spell.

Yes, I think many will see some snow, which is great. I was just referring to the uppers which were showing last week. The depth of cold has been watered down a lot.

Could do with the wind veering a little bit more to ENE...otherwise they(showers)  are gonna stick to the east of Maidstone and exit over Eastbourne.. :-)

Snow here now and settling. Just a light shower but a further dusting on favoured surfaces.

Not pulled the curtains yet but just checked what was triggering the CCTV.....snow. Only a light flurry. I'm off to Potters Bar soon so no doubt I'll see a few more during the day.

Looking like there could be more of ENE component to tonight’s wind direction? That could be the sweet spot for a Thames Streamer and some good snowfall in S Essex....

MetO and whoever else can predict “1-3cm” as much as they like but I’m not convinced even those “supercomputers” can calculate accurately how much moisture will be whipped up off the North Sea. We could get more of the white stuff than people think.

CK can i ask what you want. We are on the cusp of snow. Probably the first region wide snow for at least 5 years. The mild sector thursday has gone. By all accounts the strat is getting stronger and stronger warming. If you think itd going to be a 3 day cold shot think again its modelled for 14 days..... the dew points drop like a stone this afternoon
