Yeah my folks are a bit inland from you near lavenham. Bit worried for them!

Latest gusts suggest it's deepening rapidly which has been the concern regarding Arpege and ICON outputs. Maybe 65mph gusts a bit reserved? 75+ would be damaging

Winds picking up here with rain off and on as the system rushes through!

@snowrye would be Intresting to compare your location to mine to see if there is much difference in wind speeds (not sure where you are)

@snowrye sorry I do remember us talking about this before   I wonder if being inland even ever so slightly will affect it

MetO have underestimated the strength of this storm due to 93mph being recorded in Carpel Curig, Wales.....A storm name should have been used too

Cyclogenesis just means the formation of a low.  Until it starts to fill\weaken.

Highest just 52 now, however I think I just heard a stronger one. Sound like something huge crashing into the house, the gust sounded like that, it didn't actually push something big.

Capel Curig is at an altitude of 650ft, 93mph there, isn't unusual when winds are forecast to be gusting to 70mph.

More exposed I agree but this is developing as it crosses so one to watch. It's not that high to add, only couple hundred meters. Not a thousand meters......

But, look at observations from other stations that are around it - they are in 50's, 60's and 70's - exactly what the MetO put in their warning.

Still needs to be watched..... I've experienced plenty wind storms over the years to know that when the pressure is still dropping with a very strong jet-stream above then not to be complaisant.

Yeah your right, I know nothing.

Don't be so hard on yourself!

The same thing happens with the likes of Portland or the Needles.. Impressive gust speeds, but they're so exposed and slightly away from normal civilisation that it tends to look rather bad. 70mph+ is still noteworthy, though. However, the yellow warning seems more than adequate at the moment. :)

I don't think it's the height of Capel Curig, it's funnel effect in a valley from certain directions (this one?).

Some very nasty winds out there now. would not be surprised to see trees down and some minor damage come the morning rush hour.
