For the more knowledgable people on this forum, please can someone explain why weather forecasts (bbc, net check) are still saying the temperature will be around the 6 degrees mark??  Are we not in reach for the cold???Are they hanging on till we get closer to Friday/Saturday. Newspapers all starting to emerge with “snow bomb for east” blah blah

Cold pool needs time to build in.

And much more common in March, April and May, yamkin, when lapse rates tend to be steeper...I can't ever remember witnessing falling snow, at 6C, in January before...

I can't remember witnessing falling snow at 6C in any month.

I have only ever seen it at the front edge of springtime showers when the 6C layer is very shallow and the air is very dry...? Is graupel/soft hail a type of snow or a type of hail?:unknw:

I do recall seeing snow when it was 5-6C but it was in a torrential rain shower

Cold-ish but dry most likely, certainly through until mid-week.

Could be an interesting journey to Guildford on the 11th. Daughter has an audition there.

Wow, the arome last night might actually have been on the ball okay a tad over.

Weather warning till 7pm tonight for high winds 50-60mph even inland. I have to say I was not expecting the arome after comparing it to the others. Even 70mph plus along the coast!

Again this backs up everything the better more knowledgeable posters are saying re the cold spell. This won't be nailed till within T48 even then it changes.

The warning for the wind today was issued at 4am this morning!

Don' know why as I told everyone yesterday even before atone came out. The low is south like yesterday', and with more cold around than is being modelld it was always going to be strong. Plus like yesterday's think it will be going slightly se. The pattrn is changing. Whether the block sets up for cold or just cold lower temps is where the models are struggling.

Wind picking up again in Marlow where I am working pretty quickly too, arrived with fog and not a breath of wind now 3 hours later it's gusty in the mid 30s.

BBC weather going for local disruption later and maybe local power cuts. This one definitely crept up on us I think the focus was more on Eleanor yesterday.

More rain to come later too, the river Thames at Staines is at bursting point

Horrible fine rain this morning, but mild.  very dark too. No wind to speak off.  Just fine yuck.

Talking off yuck, still looks dark outside, but forget snow bombs anywhere, I now gotta sort out the bomb that is 'after Christmas'.  Gah.

im sorry but this cold front that's moving in, is that next weekend? I think I'm being rather stupid at the moment, I have been on a massive house clean up now my children are back to school. I didn't realise that I had people painting my house yesterday till the afternoon, I heard loads of banging but just didn't pay any attention. I'm like a crazed cleaner at the mo. :pardon: I am surprised to see how strong the wind is here still is, even the bbc hadn't mentioned the wind on my forecast

the cold front that's moving in this weekend, is that due to bring us any  snow or is there a different front next weekend,  I have read on metcheck its getting milder again in the week. will it get cold again after this??? I'm just confused because some places say we might get snow and could be awfuk and others say not a flake, I'm just wondering if I'm making a massive muddle. I have checked its the uk and not the us.
