Hi All

Myself and Richard will be at the Best Western from Saturday 5th May, the other 2 staff members Andre and Jock will be arriving on Sunday. The cars will be Set-Up over the weekend. If any of you are coming in early we tend to eat next door as others have said at Aspen Creek which has some delicious food and happy hour as well which is a short stumble back to the Hotel. Walmart is next door as well.

Currently I have Paul Hunter as arriving on the 6th but staying at a different hotel. Ed and Adam along with John Tayor and Rebecca coming in on the 7th (Monday) . Sam, Sarah and Mihai coming in on the BA Flight which lands around half past 3 on the Tuesday 8th. I still dont know about Danny and Ruby (Couple) or Gregg yet.

The added bonus for people who are arriving on the Monday is if anything is local on the 8th (Tuesday) then we will have a chase and test everything out.

The first night Netweather pay for Hotels (Night of Tues 8th) is currently looking like the Best Western in Dallas which is good as we can all go down Aspen Creek for the Get together meal and talk through the do's and dont's etc

See Y'all next week

Good luck everyone on all the tours. We cannot wait to watch on the live stream as usual, and this year my son is a college boy rather than on school timetables, so we might just stay up a little later to catch more of the action:) Let the super cells begin.

I can’t wait.

Do you have a list of preferred model sites and essential chasing sites? I probably know most of them but may have lost a few - such as those giving out real time dew points Cheers.

Not essential on those days but definately on the Tuesday as you never know we might have to pick up the last 4 from the Airport and head North, its not a defo we will be staying at the BW on the Tuesday night yet but its almost 100% looking at the 500mb pattern for next week. Could be some Northern Plains action though next weekend.

Just the usual Ed, SPC Meso has all the T/Td's etc and Satelite Pics, Baron will have it real time once thats set up and on the move. Pivotal Weather is a great site also for cross models etc

You might have to meet us at the hotel instead :D

For the lucky ones who are in early there could even be a bonus chase day on the Tuesday only 75 miles North of the Hotel, so it would be a start and finish at the Best Western. This sounding is for just north of Gainsville (Texas) on Tuesday next week. Thats why it always pays to come in a day early I say.

Sounding below - There are also Marginal Tor soundings for Wednesday and Thursday so could be a decent start to the tour

Hmm, not sure how I'd get there as I'll be dropping off a hire car at DFW at 3 ish...

There is a Free shuttle bus from the Best Western to the Airport.

But one of the Cars will stay back and not chase anyway to pick up the guests arriving on the BA Flight which lands at 325pm. Just bare in mind they might not get to the car rentals until 5pm after clearing customs. So the Free Best Western Shuttle bus might be quicker if you are dropping off the hire car at 3pm

OK, no probs, thanks Paul - I'll keep an eye on what everyone's doing on the day then.  I guess if you're chasing nearby you might not get out until mid-afternoon anyway, so might be able to get back to the hotel before you leave - we'll see :)

On this mornings models could be a 2 way split for Tour 1

Quiet Start

Busy End

Lets see how it plays out, plenty of time for things to crop up at the start, but at least its showing some decent risk days now

Are we feeling lucky? From the NOAA Storm Prediction Centre...

Day 4-8 Convective Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0231 AM CDT Thu May 03 2018

   Valid 061200Z - 111200Z

   ...DISCUSSION...
Mid-level flow will weaken considerably across much of the
contiguous US through early next week, owing to a relaxation of the
large-scale height gradient and departure of the polar jet into
Canada. Additionally, there will likely be a lack of focused
large-scale ascent over the Plains into early next week, thereby
limiting substantial poleward moisture return. In turn, the severe
weather potential is expected to be low through at least D6/Tuesday.
Thereafter, gradually increasing boundary-layer moisture east of the
Rockies may combine with a passing shortwave trough to generate a
few strong/severe storms over parts of the Plains and Mississippi
Valley. Accordingly, "Low Predictability" has been introduced for
D7/Wednesday-D8/Thursday. However, even this severe potential
   appears rather limited.

I am feeling quite excited about the tour, first week brings a lot of promises even if no major outbreak is seen by EU at this moment. On the other hand lots of moist hot gulf air is getting pumped and we will have for sure a couple of quite interesting TS in the plains maybe in all days. I am really counting on a continuous stream of precipitation to improve humidity.

US vegetation is  delayed. In the photos of the outbreak of this week I have seen lots of freshly plowed exposed soil. Now it seems that it will get quite hot and quite humid. Thu-Fri next week might bring some severe TS. I do have a feeling for an larger outbreak in the second week of our tour.

06z GFS firming up on the background signals from the EC Weeklies along with other factors promoting a significant US Trough coming through from the 14-18th May. This was the active 2nd half of Tour 1 I was talking about.

Cant wait to get the 3 cars set up over the weekend so they are all ready for everyone on Tour 1

John

Can you add me on facebook. Name on there is Paul Botten and my profile picture is the same as my little icon on here. Can then add you into the Tour 1 chat thread.

Also if Sarah Cox, Gregg Lees, Danny Stephenson or Ruby Wiltshire are reading this, can you also search for me on facebook (if you are on there of course)

We have a Tour 1 Chat thread going which is a life saver if conditions change overnight and we need to leave hotels a few hours earlier than planned for example.

Cheers

Getting a bit excited now. I leave early tomorrow. I’m cautiously liking the trend in the models with a surface trough building towards the west of the central plains by the weekend. This should allow enough moisture to be sucked up from the GOM.

interestingly there is a gfs tornado signature for the first three days

Arrived home from Tour 1 on Sunday. We all had an absolute blast.

It's by no means a classic season stateside this year, but Paul B and the team still found us storms every single day.

The Nebraska tornado day, a mammoth chase from Elizabeth, Colorado where we were hit by massive hail and the apocalyptic Plainview, Texas storm
will live long in the memory.

A massive thanks to Paul Botten and the team. Best of luck to those on the remaining tours.
