Will go for 4.5*C please. I feel the first half of January will be invaded by the Atlantic and its pal,  the Jet Stream. Then, towards the end of the month, I feel the Atlantic will become too tired and go for a snooze. Colder conditions developing from the East and North-East!

Tricky one this, looking a rather mild start to the month especially in the south, though some colder interludes from the NW will penetrate into the CET zone at times, but not enough to produce a below average first half, second half of the month may bring a change to something colder and more settled, but I am going with a milder than average month 5.1 degrees, a marked north-south divide, the north colder than average, but the CET zone just south of the persistant colder conditions. If we do see some height rises to the NE later in the month then an average CET value most likely.

As you can see - I'm not confident at all about this month - knife edge between cold and mild, so not ruling out the possibilities of a colder than average month..but probability favours milder, but not significant.

Methinks the coldest month of the winter I sense February will also experience some very cold weather in the first half but it’ll turn much milder, anywho can’t see it being overly wet, after a mobile start a fair amount of precipitation falling as snow in all regions from towards mid month but also dier.

Coldest in the N/E not quite a North Sea snow machine easterly but very cold conditions setting in the severest of which seen in a number of years.

2.5C & 89mm thanks :)

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
