If this storm tracks through Scotland, could we see some potentially damaging gusts here?

Whether it tracks through Wales or Scotland will see some pretty horrendous wind up here, but it won't be named because it's the little old north west so who cares....

It will be just typical of our look that the most of annoying of phrases, southerly correction doesn’t happen on the one occasion we want it to.

looks like a 24-36 window of snow for the fortunate ones then wet and wild.

maybe the Met called this right in not including our region in any snow warnings although they are probably still wiping the egg from their faces after the December warnings went belly up.

No, if it tracks across Wales, we won't get the severe gales. Severest winds are always around the belly of a low

Heck if our snow can drift to the west country in this short a time frame (December?), maybe it's a goer still. Anyway at least it will be cold for a bit.

Nope, different set up.

GFS has Wednesday night into Thursday morning bordering on "goodbye roof panels" in some areas - 92mph and above gusts. To be honest if we're not going to get snow I'd rather have some exciting weather. Not to mention some serious rainfall.

Still looking good here for Tues, next week not quite the epic snowfest of GFS yesterday but it'll certainly be more exciting than this lame easterly that's now coming to an end.

Last time we did well from a north westerly was Jan 2015, a band of snow showers merged to give several hours of blizzards, woke up in the morning to 5 inches on the back step but waist deep drifts on the road. A repeat of that would be nice!

Updated Manchester Airport TAF mentions chance of hail, snow pellets and snow at times tomorrow from tomorrow morning onwards. That is an upgrade from earlier.

great idea! Maybe it's not the sea though it could be rainwater .. but at least we will be able to dust off the sledge that way !

Well that LP on the 12z is still the proverbial fly in oint.

At least it whizzes through at a fair rate of knots and its as you were -  Not expecting anything at coastal level as we are notverymuch asl - a move to Sedbergh is on the cards early retirement permitting - 20 years overdue

BBC don't seem to have a clue what's going on.

North West forecast - wet and windy

National Forecast - sleet and snow in the North West

Hedging their bets?

Probably

I have no idea why but for years the local BBC NW forecasts seems to always downplay wintry prospects compared to the national forecasts.

I remember Michael Fish being asked about this on a TV show about TV, Open Air I think it was, in the late 1980s, on why regional BBC forecasts sometimes differ from national forecasts. He said it shouldn't really.

Sooner have snow, i’ll wait until summer and a breakdown from a 30c heatwave for my thunder and lightning if you don’t mind.

Misery guts. Cheering on a 100mph wind storm is not on, peoples houses could be severely damaged in that as well as a severe flooding. I'd take snowfall over that any day of the week

Firstly, most regional weather presenters are just that. Most are not actual meteorologists and are simply presenters and often appear to know little about the weather. Second, I am sure in recent years that they have had to tow the line that cold and/or snowy weather is bad. There should be no bias in presenting the weather, cold or mild. Unfortunately, this is often not the case both nationally and regionally with most following the mild is good, cold is bad line.

When did I mention a 100 mph storm?
