Well at least it will be windy!

Yep....I don't know why people get so taken in by the models, it nearly always ends up in rain and wind here,

That forecast suprises me CS.

Tues has -6 uppers , low thicknesses, dews look ok, if your 150m + it really should be snow IMHO.

Steve Murr said the same thing yesterday-im defo thinking low lying areas are out of the game but for those with altitude i'd be suprised if tue wasn;t snowy.

If nexts weeks a washout i will never vote for anything that comes off the Irish sea again.

Just now, Deep Snow please said:

Looks like another few buckets of potential coming down on Monday night to enjoy. What a bummer.

Still think tues holds potential as it stands :)

I can see this sytem goin through the irish sea- could be either very wet and windy or very snowy and windy-

At least we know to tie the bins down again! They won't float away that way either, so if they're roughly where they started we know where to dig them out later!!.....

How about this one:

Monday:

Strong winds and blustery showers will persist all day. It will feel colder later and showers will fall increasingly as snow over hills, with sleet in the cities by nightfall. Maximum temperature 6 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Wintry showers and strong cold winds will continue, sometimes accompanied by thunder near the coast. Snow will settle widely over the hills, even leaving a centimetre or two lower down.

Latest metoffice forecast sounds more encouraging. I guess there is a possibility that warnings may be issued later this morning, but we will see. On another note, people should stop obsessing with the app forecasts. These are all automated and chop and change frequently so are as about as much use as a chocolate fireguard! :)

Metoffice Peak District forecast mentions freezing levels falling below 200m and snow to all levels by Tuesday which is encouraging for the region.

Yup, tues is defo our day for snow chances.

EC now has uppers of -7 into the North west.

That should be enough to bring snow to many - even lower levels imho.

I can see why the metoffice have upgraded the text - - should be fun, before the wind and rain come later on wed..

Let's hope we are not all cursing on Tuesday wondering how on earth it can still rain with uppers of -7 or below....lol :D

A Coulda night than forecast, currently 2.4°C which is a little surprising.

Don’t give up on the runner yet guys, it’s still over 84 hours away.   Who here can ever forget when 84 hours before the 10th of December we were all expecting to be buried in snow and yet  that low ended up a hundred miles further south!

Hi chris-

Even tho it looks to have gone breasties up wed onwards tues looks good- like the meto say, snow down to low levels and thunder near the coast.

Take a day off work/college and enjoy.

-7 uppers should be ace , lets make the most of it we dont get many chances nowadays :D

Think we will see warnings for snow tues later this morning, 2-5 com low down and upto 10cm high up would be my guess :)

No chart available for the selected hour. Many charts start at 3 hours ahead, so if you have 0 hours selected try stepping forward or selecting a later hour.

Agreed. Don’t worry, I’ll be making the most of what ever I get.  I’m a thunderstorm nut in summer anyway so I love this kind of weather.

The only Januaries this decade that I haven't seen lying snow at some stage during the month are 2012 and 2014.

3 of the last 4 Januaries had a wintry spell of during mid-month.

Hi mate do you know when the TAFS will be in range for tues? :)

The uppers look good for Tuesday. However, I'm sure there is a post somewhere about the variables that need to be in place for snow to fall. Aren't there something like ten different atmospheric parameters that all have to be in place?

Yes, its only one piece of the jigsaw but once you get to -7 uppers its game on in my experience...
