Honestly see nothing coming from this for me in st Helens. I think Manchester may do well maybe. I think I'll review on Monday evening before buying a sledge.

Can you get one with a child seat?

this is how people get so disappointed, the models are not clear cut, the bbc and met are not really on board yet, but when people bring this up they are told why the bbc are wrong, well the chances are they are not wrong, the signals are you will need elevation for lying snow, if you don't have elevation you are probably out of luck.

The BBC always underplay snow chances ,until about 24 hours away. Its always been like that. They not going to ramp the chance of snow until it becomes clear where exactly the snow will fall, and they won’t know that until much nearer the time frame

So much panic in this thread over nothing,at least most of you will see lying snow next week.I bet you anything We in the SE will not see any snow at all next week, nevermind lying snow.

Brighton plus points:-

Has a beach.

Has a premier league team at the moment.

Warmer in summer and gets more thunderstorms.

You can hang the washing on the line and have it dry.

Manchester  / Peak District plus points:-

Has altitude (Hills) fairly near by.

Excellent premiership football clubs (blue side)

Seldom gets a hosepipe ban.

Good view of Pennines when covered in snow.

I think Brighton wins that contest.

Oh dear. I will stick my neck out now and I will be amazed if we get anything other than rain and sleet here next week.

I've never said any different despite all the armageddon snow depth charts being posted there there and everywhere.  As chris post above ... It's no wonder people get let down and start criticising the met and the BBC.  There has been no indication in any of their forecasts of anything other than rain or sleet for those on low ground.  Inland and higher up a different story ... But that's nothing new or unusual.  And I'll take that bet that we won't see lying snow here :)

You misunderstand, no panic, just a realistic assessment of snow chances.

It’s going dark here now and I forecast it will come light again tomorrow with the same happening in the coming days.

other than that it’s all up for grabs and I certainly wouldn’t like to call it.

turning colder yes, chance of snow yes, memorable stuff or average conditions, we’ll know by mid week.

If that lot is snow then much of the region is going to see their heaviest falls for several winters.

for some we could be looking at accumulations not seen since the memorable winters of the early 80’s or earlier.

add high winds and blizzards into the mix and bingo.

looks like I could be shovelling real snow rather than potential next week.

I prefer the real stuff but shovelling the virtual type is a damn site easier.

Im in Horwich just near the jolly crofters pub I'm 198m asl.

Anything south of the Bolton town centre can be classed as low ground 300 feet

Head North, East and west out of the centre and you get  heights from 450- 700 feet above sea level.

Where in Bolton are you?

Ps.. head to Bromley Cross and Turton areas of the town and I think they are 800- 900 feet above sea level

Hello. I’m North of Bolton, too. At about 143m asl. Not far from you. Hopefully we won’t miss out!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
