I think they are too far west most of the time and even closer to the influence of the Irish sea. They get first prize for rain though lol

Too far west when its a NE'ly or E'ly, too far east when its a NW'ly or N'ly, cant win

You couldn’t make it up. Lightning earlier just to the West of me, now just to the East of me, but both just slightly too far away to hear.

Still raining

Just come back from Burnley myself and I didn't have to climb much up past Towneley Park before rain turned to sleet and the road was covered in snow at Deerplay.

more like sleet again here though.

You need a potent Polar Low to form and drop south from south west scotland, then you'll get buried.  Trouble is, they are few and far between.

Here and now, getting a few sleety bits in the mostly falling rain.  Expecting zero fluffy whiteness tonight.  Sharp frost tomorrow night though.

Have a good time and enjoy the sun.

Thanks Sf, even if the poorest weather the Canaries can throw at me will be an improvement on what we've had up here this week, even more so considering what other parts of the country and our region have had.

Back Christmas Eve, hopefully to a winter wonderland.

some instability associated with this trough for later. Maybe the lightning will stop avoiding me then.

No sign of a frost here for the for seeable future.

Well if that was tonight then then don't worry, I was right under the red area and at 1000ft I only got heavy sleet.

at 1400ft it was probably a whiteout but I think some decent altitude is going to be needed for anything other than a slush fest tonight.

Not paying much attention to what has been falling outside, but looks like we just had some sleety rain, uppers and temps not quite low enough for snow, but wouldn't take much to lower them to a level for at least some wet snow, especially if precipitation is heavy, aided by evaporative cooling.

There was a very patchy slushy cover first thing this morning.

Can't help but feel if this was a month on from now then conditions would be less marginal and snow would have fallen from similiar set up. The fells no doubt have a very good cover now, but it looks like a major thaw will take place by the start of next week, so no nice snowy fells to look at in the run in to christmas.
