Coming down thick and fast now! Also, the visibility is now reduced considerably while earlier I could see up to the hills to my east.

Well the Meto didn't forecast this - the local forecast for Failsworth on their website says dull with only a 10% chance of precipitation for right now lol just shows that snow can crop up not forecasted. But I recall it happening a few times between 2009 and 2013.

There was also an easterly in late Jan or Feb 2007 where Manchester was under an awful rainshadow effect. Then I remember one night the wind stopped and light snow moved in from the Irish sea but it wasn't anywhere near as much as this.

Well having left Surrey at 0830 I arrived home in Rossendale at 1500. Don’t ever want to do a drive like that again. Unfortunately the m40 runs through lots of hills and there was so much snow they shut it so my sat Mac took me on a magical mystery tour around High Wycombe and West Wycombe which had about 8” of snow which is no good for your average bmw or merc driver with non existent tyres who slid down hills. My 4x4 dacia duster had no problems but you had to dodge the other idiots! Home now to a bit of snow but nothing compared to what I drove through
