Hurn airport recorded a gust of 55mph just after midnight. I am totally confused as to why it went so quiet here. o_O

Had strong winds just after the squall line, an hour or so of calmer winds, and now after a recent downpour; the winds are really picking up again here.
Can even hear a few of the gusts out there through the new double glazing with all the windows shut which is quite unusual past two years I've been in this house!

Scary five minutes with horizontal rain and v squally winds , gone suddenly quiet again .

Lots of cloud cover now . I expect there will be reports of local damage in the morning .

That was brutal for 20 minutes. Some squall and amazing thunder and lightning. Becalmed now for a bit.

Had that here recently (as Barbel/Ciderwithrosie posted), Infrequent thunder and lightning with driving hail/rain gave my station a gust of 54mph at 02:29. That's the joint 3rd highest in the last 10 years.

Looks like it got from here to Poole in 45 mins, not bad going..

My road looks like the local tip now, rubbish everywhere. No doubt the offending neighbor won’t clear it up either.

Had the second power flicker in the last half an hour, seems like the gusts are quite strong around the downpours still!

Between 1.30am and 1.50am it was crazy outside. Like being in a washing machine. The thunder woke me up.

Then all quiet rest of the night.

The stronger winds hit for about an hour around 11pm last night, 25-30mph, the wind direction changed from SW to Westerly.
Plenty of 35-42mph gusts and a couple of 45 and 47mph gusts recorded here.
Rain showers at that time too for a short period, 3.7mm

Its been WSW 20-25mph since with the occasional 35-37mph gusts.

7.9c now, 996.4 hPa and rising slowly,

Pretty clear morning with some Cu and temp of 9C but of course the main feature is the wind and that's still gusting in the 50-55mph range.

Would you believe it. The sun is shining. Scattered cloud but breezy.

Must have had very strong winds overnight as the garden furniture is all huddled together in one corner.

Bit calmer this morning.

This is what gave me 53mph

It moved through very fast though, so not much rain.

Some very odd noises in the night around 1.00 am - wife investigated, but couldn't find anything. I then had a look and absolved both cats and the dog and then realised it was the old TV arial that I had been meaning to remove for ages was now hanging down the side of the house by the cable and swinging in the wind... Fingers crossed it wouldn't fall off and cause damage before I could remove it. Happily I've taken it down now!

We always have a mostly fine blowy day after a deep overnight low. Happened last June too.

Wind ramping up again with light rain - have seen the updated weather warning too , to exptend it until 1900 h.

Do do I understand correctly that another system is waiting in the wings for Friday ?

Quite a few charts show it missing here and going in to France. The MetO shows nothing for here, so they must be thinking the same thing.
