Still just cold rain here, not that heavy though. Strange how random it's been tonight, evap cooling is a weird thing sometimes...

Very localised tonight. I thought the colder air was digging in though and would already be in the likes of Nottingham but it's reporting rain there on XCweather :cc_confused:

Well I thought it could not get any heavier, but it has. :D

Probably getting on for an inch here now ontop of cars and walls. Hard to tell because im three floors up though.

Coming down very heavy on the m1 just now passed 2 snow ploughs. Strangely enough nothing lying in daventry yet 1 mile prior to being here it was white over inc on all main roads.

Turning bk to snow here had an hour of sleet that washed away the earlier snow but later looks interesting as the cold air digs in and the Band pivots back over us around 4am.

Rain/Sleet in Grantham/Nottingham

Really baffles me as the colder air is meant to be digging in from the North. So in theory, it should be colder in Nottingham/Grantham than Leicester and Rugby! I guess that's evaporative cooling in action though. Leicester and Rugby have moderate to heavy PPN at the moment and it must be bringing the temps down just enough!

Yes that is puzzling, low temps are to the north but the snow seems o be in the centre of the low rather than on the northern edge? Even Thorncliffe reporting rain, while Leicester, Gloucester, south Wales get snow, strange.

Doesn't look like it's going to stop snowing hard anytime soon judging by the radar...:yahoo:

Just turned back to heavy snow here after an hour of rain washed most of the previous snow from the roads. Still a covering of sorts on the grass

Very heavy snow all roads and pavements are white again. And ppn is really intense now for the Midlands for a good few hours.

Nice to see your council can still afford to light the lamp posts. Ours decide we don't need them after 12.

It's turned to snow here now. Not settling at the moment but hope that may change as until a bit ago I didn't think it would turn.

I love how Leicester is in the sweet spot. Hardly ever happened when i lived there. it happened once in 2010 but can't think of another time before that.

Turned from sleet to heavy snow, temp & dewpoints have dropped over the last hour, looking good for a few hours yet

Yep can't remember it snowing this heavy for more than a few minutes before in Leicester. Has been pounding it down for a good hour now, and was moderate through the entire event up til then. It accumulated better a couple weeks back because it was colder and less marginal, but it definitely was not as heavy !
