There's still alot of frost and ice about here too, with lovely blue skies. A nice seasonal day.

Didn't feel too bad really with the sun out :) Just icy in shaded areas still.... I'm currently at 3.5c

But tomorrow will feel a little different with grey leaded skies, temps maxing for most throughout the Midlands at only 2c and don't for get the stiff easterly breeze it's going to feel :cold:

WOW  Snowy...

That really is cold. I see that AndyMusic on MAD is claiming he wore shorts today!!

Is he mad or just trying to make a point!.

I think that many people are underestimating this current cold spell..

I see from DWW 's  post above that it will get colder tomorrow.

I played golf this pm with the lovely blue skies and I still could feel the wind although I had 5 layers on (+ my long johns).

It really was piercing, and was very cold and frosty in any shade.

Anyway to actuals.     Max today was 3.7C and the temp now (19:20) is 0.2C still with the keen wind blowing and a dewpoint of -2.9C.

Core,  I am due on the golf course tomorrow so must make sure I take the coffee and Brandy!

I had to de-ice at 2pm which surprised me. Still muddy in waterlogged areas though with the ground not being as firm as I hoped but we have had a lot of rain lately.

Wind was biting though, and tonight has been quite gusty with clear skies (unusual to not have cloud with the winds).

Patchy snow still lying after the snowfall on Friday. My garden is still 80% covered but  more widely the cover is about 5%. A cold but sunny morning with a current temp' of -0.7c and a moderate E breeze.

Still cold here too...

started at about -0.1C at 09:00 rose to 1.6C by midday. Still the same 3.5 hrs later.

Dew Point still below freezing at -0.6C, so with the advent of moisture (cannot even call it drizzle yet) and the wind chill at -1.3C it still feels bitterly cold.  :cold:

Heating on full blast!

Easterly wind and drizzle, that's January as late as 2018, never happen in 90's

drizzle off E'ly happens most in summer

It certainly did happen in the 90s in fact its happened since time began, if you have a proper look at the synoptics you will see why, nothing unusual at all given the current synoptics as its not a proper Easterly:)

Easterly winds with cloud/drizzle in winter?

December 2002. Biggest and best Scandinavian high in years, don't know what it was like in the Midlands but I was in the Northeast where it gave 2 weeks of solid cloud, occasional rain and temps of 5C day and night.

Parts of Jan and Mar 1996 (though there were snowy cold ones too)

Feb 2005 (at least during daylight hours)

Feb 2017 (remember that one? -8 uppers from the E in the depth of winter just gave 3C and light rain)

This spell has at least produced a couple of beautiful clear frosty nights, which is more in the way of winter weather than most of the "cold spells" between 2013-14 and 2016-17 managed with much colder uppers.

You don't see this many times, today widely across the Midlands we had 850hpa uppers temps of 6c to 7c and 2M surface temps of 2c to 3c.

Low cloud and lots of drizzle today...Currently 3.5c

Yep DWW...

Played golf today. Started out at 2.6C , and finished at 14:00 at 3.3C.

Very cold and damp with occasional drizzle.

Since then it has started rising and is now at 4.1C

Not great but a slow improvement.

Checking forecasts for the next 24 hrs now.

Hope for a nice sunny cold day tomorrow.:nonono::cold:
