Several New Years Days in that era had snow or snow lying:

1995 snow in afternoon, 2cm, lay till 4th

1996 snow lying from fall on 30 Dec

1997 snow falling and lying, 7cm depth

2002 snow lying from fall on 30 Dec

(2001 was a near miss, snow lay from 28-31 Dec)

And never had lying snow on NYD since, falling snow just once (a 10-minute shower in 2010)

Cheers, on 6z potential next Saturday... still a way of being resolved. Just my guesswork -no expert me! As a real novice I am only looking for patterns nearer to home. LP systems and upper temps etc..

Will be interesting to see how this evolves and if moves with UKMO etc...

Could be some snow by next weekend. Detajl is very messy though.

Always messy forecasting snow as such when this far out....Get a cold first and then we'll be sneezing snow flakes  :)  Interesting times ahead for it's all looking good ATM :cold:

Sleet here for a while as the precipitation moved in from the west but it soon reverted to rain. Thick fog since 1100. Current temp' is 3.2c.

I think colder but mostly dry. Although models show some rain/sleet/snow Friday.

Potential for some battleground snow events further ahead as milder conditions try to push in from the Atlantic.

We have a storm Eleanor to deal with tomorrow morning, even inland there could be gales with a very squally feature bringing strong gusts to some inland localities.

Wednesday daytime sees a very blustery day, with squally gusts accompanying showers in many areas.

Yes, yellow warning until tomorrow for wind overnight. Not going to be pleasant out at all. :nonono:
