Yeah the important temps like dew point and 850hpa is not due to fall til midnight onwards really as cooler air heads south easterly.

It’s sleet here so hopeful for later, and everyone knows that snow if it’s heavy enough will settle on wet surfaces with ease. Chill everyone it’s 6.10 it’s not supposed to be snow yet

Snow settles surprisingly quickly on wet surfaces once the temp drops and the snow picks up.

Rain to snow events can deliver big time.

It is slowly dropping here, acc'g a local Wunderground station - it was 4.7C with a 5C dewpoint at 5pm, and an hour later it's down to 4.0C with a 4C dewpoint - till too warm, but a fair drop, with plenty of time to go...

Fingers crossed...

I'm afraid it looks like a few hours of snow and then rain, doesn't float my boat.

besides, it will no doubt change at the last min and mean sod all for my area, like it does practically every single time.

12z Euro4 is a bit confusing to a noob like me, the low is a touch further south and east, which means the cold air extends about 20 or 30 miles south east. It should mean it is a little less marginal for areas right in on the boundary between warm and cold, but the snow accumulation levels are slightly less, though overall similar to 06z.

Temp dropping quickly now..

Down to 3.3C (down 0.7C in last half hour) and smeet now in larger raindrops on the lamp-post. DP dropping slowly now down to 2.1C.

 MIA

Also NTW radar shows sleet now getting into western areas of the Midlands so not surprised by the Frankley report above from Mark.

No update to any warnings regarding snow which is amazing considering most of the high res models give accumulations of between 2 - 6 inches for east Wales, central midlands and south/south east midlands by 0600 weds. My elevation is not great, around 80metres here on south staffs/warwickshire border however you would expect bbc and met office to show more than 2 hours of sleet given the models!!

As encouragement, we had 18 hours of rain yesterday and then after 22h00 it turned to sleet. Within 45 minutes, snow and then woke up to a winter wonderland.

I’m near Daventry tonight/tomorrow, just found out my location is 180msl, which ought to help a bit. Will rely on Midlands Ice Age for updates from back home.

2.7C and DP of 1.1C.

DP now dropping more quickly than the air temperature.

First sign of flakes appearing now as the raindrops slow down in the light.

Looks as though it is on the turn now.
